A San Diego area high school teacher was recorded “going off” on students in Zoom school, which later surfaced online creating a firestorm.
In the video calls, San Marcos High School teacher Alissa Piro dares parents who are think she is not doing a good enough job of distance learning to “come at me.”
Piro’s ire was stoked by the push by parents to end remote learning and return children to their classrooms full time in California.
"If your parent wants to talk to me about their profession and their opinion on their profession, I would love to hear that...," she rants.
"However, if your parent wants to come talk to me about how I'm not doing a good enough job in distance learning based on what you need as an individual? Just dare them to come at me. Because I am so sick to my stomach of parents trying to tell educators how to do their job."
The video, filmed by a family member of one of her students, was shared on a Facebook group dedicated to reopening schools in the district.
In another video shared on Facebook, Piro yells at a student asking about a "White student union."
"You don't need a White student union, Jake. You get everything," Piro says.
"She's a bully," a mother wrote in the "Open SM Schools" private Facebook group. "These rants were so often my child said he tuned her out and was just trying to get thru the class.
"This is exactly what's wrong with education and if the school district sweeps this then they are just as responsible."
This is an honors English class she’s trying to persuade, not the kids one would normally worry about failing a standardized test. She must know she really sucks.

Well, if not, you're stupid, but then we already kinda guessed that. A doctor is like a plumber. He's a subject matter specialist and also hopefully has skills in the application of that knowledge to medical therapy. It's his job to help you understand the problem, your options for fixing it, and the likely upsides and downsides of each. It's up to YOU to make the final decision. There's no such thing as "doctor's orders". He's a contract employee.

The honors class teachers are often under more pressure. Their heads are on the line if the kids fail an AP exam. My American AP history teacher tried to dissuade me from taking the AP exam, as I had screwed off too much. I still passed with a good score.
Two things wrong with Rosa's statement. First, look around. Clearly, "educators" are not educating. At all. Second, nobody is telling "educators" how to do their job, just that parents want them to do their job.
Today's crop of teachers proves the maxim, "Those who can't ....... teach."
I cannot find the words to say how grateful I am that I went to a one room school with 14 kids in 8 grades when I was in grade school.
Effective teaching requires empathy.
