Disqus’ De-Platforming of Frontpage
Frontpage ^ | 3/16/21 | The Editors

Posted on 03/16/2021 7:59:06 AM PDT by Renkluaf

The relentless de-platforming of conservatives in general and of the David Horowitz Freedom Center specifically, continues.

On March 3rd the Editors at FrontPage received an email from Disqus, the networked community platform used by hundreds of thousands of sites all over the web. The statement reads:

It has come to our attention that your site is included in the Hate Groups listed on the Southern Poverty Law Center Hate Map:

As fostering Hate is a violation of the Disqus Terms of Service and Basic Rules, we can no longer support your site on the Disqus network. Disqus will be removed from your site on March 17th, to allow time for transition and a comment export. If you will need a manual export, please let us know before the removal date.

That was it. As of tomorrow, March 17th, Disqus is de-platforming us. They have refused to respond to inquiries seeking further explanation. Disqus has taken on faith the libelous accusations of the Southern Poverty Law Center, a widely-discredited, partisan group that frequently characterizes mainstream conservative organizations as “hate groups.”

As loyal and dedicated readers of FrontPageMag.com, you know how vital the comments section is to a website. It engages the readers, provides a platform for lively debate and discussion, and allows for a community of like-minded readers to converse with each other. Comments are critical to the lifeblood of a website that engages in opinion and discussion.

Rest assured, we will still have comments flowing tomorrow. We are switching to a new service and while the look and feel will be a little different, we ask for your patience in getting used to the new section.

Meanwhile, we must remain vigilant and continue to fight the egregious leftist cancel culture that has overtaken our country. This is not our first battle in this war. In just the past couple of years, MasterCard temporality shut us down, one of our local banks closed our account due to our “controversial positions on issues,” and a brokerage firm closed our account for “unknown reasons.” Amazon will not allow the Freedom Center, a 501 c3 IRS designated nonprofit, to participate in their Amazon Smiles charity campaign because of the SPLC’s designation of the Center has a “hate group” and now Disqus, the largest networked community platform on the Internet, has canceled our service.

These disruptions are costly and hinder us from what we should be doing—pursuing our mission in educating citizens of the dangers of the Left—but they also shine a light on just how dangerous the Left is and now how tenuous our liberties and freedom are.

Thank you for your readership and support. We have just begun to fight.

So, when does a class action suit against the Southern Poverty Law Center begin? Seems to me, a non-lawyer, that it’s a big, fat fabulously wealthy target for some enterprising lawyers to take aim at.

SPLC needs to be either sued out of existence, or...you know, the thing.

The SPLC is itself a “hate group”.

It is long past time to start thinking about what should bone about the SPLC.

Discussions, of course, should be private and not on computer.

Perhaps a suitable conclusion might be reached.

Lying and sleaze really should not be permitted.

Since the left can dox, why cannot we?

Sounds like a great law suit against SPLC for deformation.

Easy to show damages and they have been susceptible to these kind of suits before.

Since when does SPLC become the sole judge on what’s hate and what’s not. This organization needs to be exposed. I think they should start with some defamation lawsuits.

Southern Poverty Law Center Hate Map

SPLC is a four letter word, just like EVIL.

There needs to be a list, something like AMERICA'S DEFENSE GROUP, where all Ammerica-hating groups are listed, including SPLC and DNC and Democrats and Antifa and BLM and CNN and MSNBC and ABC/CBS/NBC, Facebook, Twitter, Google... you get the point.

How is it that you can be defined as hateful?
Because they say so.

And who appointed the Southern Poverty “Law” Center the supreme authority as to what constitutes hate? They’re one of the most hateful groups of piled up excrement I ever heard of.

Yes, but do we have enough of a legal system left that would find against a favored, far left, organization which is a go to source for labeling and referral of hate groups as defined by the Marxists?

To a layman - like me - it’s hard to see how being placed on a list like SPLC’s ‘Hate Group’ list where the practical impact of being placed on the list results in tangible, material and quite possibly monetary damages is protected as a privilege, or defense against a defamation claim. How in the world is this not defamatory?

I’m sure SLPC’s lawyers would argue that the list is protected as ‘Rhetorical Hyperbole.’ But, can it be hyperbole when people placed on that list receive real-world damage?

If some courts have found that a lawyer being called an ‘ambulance chaser’ is defamatory (and they have), then how would this also not be defamatory?

Unfortunately though, since 1964, the Court’s incredibly narrow reading of defamation law has made prevailing in cases like this very, very difficult. It’s time to revisit NY Times v Sullivan, IMO.

While the SPLC’s libelous interference may feel torturous, I think the word you want is tortious.

It was a tortuous, twisting path, at a tortoise-like pace getting to my post!
