‘It’s Only Six Votes’: Pelosi Excuses Democrats From Launching Probe to Possibly Unseat GOP Member
Epoch Times ^ | March 15, 2021 | JACK PHILLIPS

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Sunday excused Democrats who launched an investigation into possibly unseating an elected GOP House representative, explaining that the margin of victory was extremely slim.

“It was six votes,” Pelosi told ABC News on Sunday, noting the number of votes by which Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa) defeated her Democratic opponent, Rita Hart.

Miller-Meeks was ultimately seated in Congress after votes were counted, recounted, and certified by the state. Several days ago, the House Administration Committee started a process that could lead to Miller-Meeks being unseated.

“It was six votes, and our candidate Rita Hart, the Democratic candidate asked for this process to begin,” Pelosi told ABC. “What the committee did, the House Administration Committee, was very narrow to take the process to the next step and see where it goes from there. An election of six votes out of 400,000 votes cast. This is not unique. This has happened, maybe even when you were in the Capitol before when races had been close one side or the others saying, let’s take it to the House.”

She said that former Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia “agreed that the House has the authority to seat members,” meaning that “we can count the votes.”

Several days prior to her interview, Pelosi told reporters in a press conference that overturning the election in favor of Hart is a “hypothetical” situation but later said it’s possible.

“Well, I respect the work of the committee,” the California Democrat said on March 12. “I did see, as you saw in the press, what they decided to—and they were following my, as I read it, the requirements of the law as to how you go forward. And how you go forward is the path you’re on and we’ll see where that takes us. But there could be a scenario to that extent. Yes.”

Epoch Times Photo Mariannette Miller-Meeks answers a question during a debate in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Oct. 8, 2020. (Rebecca F. Miller/The Gazette via AP) Pelosi, with her Sunday comment, appeared to be echoing a statement sent out by Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), the chair of the House Administration Committee, to her members saying that “the margin separating the two candidates was only six votes out of almost 400,000 cast: less than 1/6 of 1 percent. That’s six votes—not 6,000; not 600; not 60 or even 16—just six fewer votes than we have members of this committee.”

According to the Federal Contested Elections Act of 1969, the House has the ability to decide close congressional races on its own aside from the courts.

After the investigation was launched by the Democrat-led committee, Republicans cried foul.

Rep. Bryan Steil (R-Wis.) said that Miller-Meeks was declared the winner of the contest.

“Miller-Meeks has won the election, the majority of Iowa has fairly elected their representative. The Democratic majority in Washington should not stand in the way and delay this process any longer and spend taxpayer money on unnecessary legal fees,” he said.

In 1985, McCloskey's House vote was 236 to 190 to accept the House Committee report -- after McIntyre, the Republican challenger, had been declared the winner in IN-8 by 34 votes one day after the election, and by 418 votes after a state-ordered recount.

However, unlike Tip O'Neill, Pelosi has made a tactical error -- in '85, the House paid both McCloskey and McIntyre until the Democrat-led House committee released their report and the House voted to accept the report 55%-45% and seat McCloskey.

She has given Miller-Meeks the seat "provisionally", but the way she is trying to jump out of the trial balloon, she's not going to hand Trump a lit match and the gas, to attack Robotox for seating a Democrat who accused her state of electoral fraud.

Suspect Madame Defarge will instruct the House to reject the report (or even kill it in Committee) and instead find Hart a jerb in Resident Xiden's admin like Robotox did for former Rep. Rose (get this : "US Secretary of Defense for COVID-19").

“Since the Dems only have a 5 vote margin in the House, lets Fire Pelosi as Speaker and hand the gavel to Kevin.”

I guess I understand why they are doing it. With the margin so thin in the house they are going to do most anything to hold onto power. But there is no doubt that this will be more polarizing back in the home district. With it not being a presidential year Republican votes will be even more turn on to turn out this thief!

On another related issue. Our guys in the Senate need to fight hard as they can to keep the Power Grab Bill from passing into law. If we keep it from becoming law I think there will be a Dem bloodbath in the 2022 elections. If they get the steal law enabled it will be close to impossible to win the house and senate (or any other election in the future!).

Since Miller-Meeks was seated and is now an active member, it appears she would have to be expelled by a two thirds majority of the House to remove her. Once sworn in and seated, counting is over.

“Since Miller-Meeks was seated and is now an active member, it appears she would have to be expelled by a two thirds majority of the House to remove her. Once sworn in and seated, counting is over.” Miller-Meeks already voted “no” on the $1.9 trillion Covid relief bill twice. She is a member of the House. Even Democrats can’t get rid of Miller-Meeks without a 2/3 majority in the House. Her votes has already been recorded.

"...and now they want to steal another House seat."

They tried to steal the 22nd NY District election again in November. It was finally decided in early February that the Republican candidate won the seat. Claudia Tenney had held it for one term, but was defeated in 2018 by less than 1%. On election night 2020, she led the Democrat incumbent by 29,000 votes, but when the absentee ballots were counted, her lead was down to single digits. They were finding ballots in desk drawers in two different counties. It went to the courts. The Democrat Judge ordered signature verification of the rejected absentee ballots, and declared Tenney the winner by 109 ballots. Makes you wonder if the same signature verification had been applied in 2018, she probably would have retained her seat then.

The State of Iowa makes the determination of the winner not Pelosi. Pelosi and Schumer moved heaven and earth to keep Congress from looking at the presidential election so why is she meddling now?

I guarantee that if the rats remove Miller-Meeks, kicking Republicans out of congress will become habit forming.

The rats stole power and will never relinquish it.

"I guarantee that if the rats remove Miller-Meeks, kicking Republicans out of congress will become habit forming."

The majority of Republicans voted for that on January 6th. They have no one to blame but themselves.

The House will remove her and seat the democrat. Only requires a simple majority since the republican was only “provisionally” seated.

Simply not accurate. McCloskley was seated under [FCEA] by a House line vote of 55%-45% over McIntyre.

[FCEA] expressly only requires a majority vote of the House, and that the [FCEA] Committee Resolution is binding upon the House and the Courts if passed by majority vote.

The Federal Contested Elections Act is explicitly supra-Constitutional as Art. 1, Sect. 5 has been interpreted. The wiki does a fairly good job of explaining this:

"Court cases have held that House decisions of contested elections cannot be brought to the courts on appeal, not even the United States Supreme Court, as they are political in nature."

"After the [FCEA] Committee completes its examination of the election, it issues a report to the full House, in the form of a Resolution with recommendations. The House then adopts or rejects this resolution by a majority vote. The precedents of the House state that the resolution can:
