yes! this is exactly what needs to happen. All the red states must stand up and this will force the tech companies to stop this nonsense.

FR is a lot more tolerant of dissent than FB.

Probably true. But FB does ban outright leftists.

I would think that as long as outright leftist were polite they could post here. The problem is they so quickly degenerate into foul mouthed, ad-hominem attacks and outright lies.

They are not used to having their faulty world view challenged and being intellectually fragile, lash out and start whining.

It is, I think, behavior not POV.

Really? And when Facebook, Twitter, et al cancel all Texan accounts, then what?

I don’t recall ever being censored on FR. I spent last Sunday in FB “jail” for posting info on COVID they didn’t like. BTW, it wasn’t my viewpoint. It was stats from around the world. It has gotten really obvious what they are up to.

I got suspended once for language many years ago for repeating what a evolutionist said about me on a crevo thread. That was before Jim kicked the evolutionists off.

I got told by Jim to put a sock in it last summer on a coronavirus thread. So I didn’t get suspended but I quit posting on Coronavirus threads for a long time. I just think the whole world has lost their minds over coronavirus, Free Republic included.

I too am skeptical of the pandemic....I think it's been wildly overblown and used by the left to control us. I don't deny corona virus existed I just believe it was no where near as serious as we were led to believe!!!

“Yeah would FR be included in that discription?”

If you were forced to identify yourself by your real name and not allowed to re-register if banned, then yes.

Fortunately Jim doesn’t operate that way.

If they promote their leftist agenda they are subject to the famous https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1686991/posts

I think you have to require bandwidth. They will just slow the response to zero and the browser kicks out. “We are not censoring”

LOL. As if we want the government to arbitrarily decide who the 1st Amendment should apply to.

I assure you it will apply to FR if the Democrats ever retake Texas.

what we want is to apply anti-censoring viewpoints to monopoly status social media like twitter, facebook, and youtube while leaving specialty viewpoint platforms like FR alone.

The alternative is to let the free market fix it with alternates.

I want both to happen. I don’t want to leave those firms intact even with anti-censoring legislation in the hands of anti-Americans.

Since when did monopolies lose their 1st Amendment rights?.

If they're illegal monopolies break them up. If they aren't illegal leave them alone.

But don't let the government arbitrarily decide who gets to speak (or not speak) and who doesn't.

If I understand the intent of the legislation is to ensure everyone gets to speak. That when it comes to big tech companies nobody gets to censure.

That could wreck a platform like FR or DU for that matter, which have a specified political purpost and bias. But it shouldn’t hurt big tech.

They can always implement the Parler approach. I can mute anybody whose opinion I don’t want to see again. I really like that.

I remember asking for something like that on FR years ago when the mormons were bombarding us with pro-mormon articles.

No one is stopping people from speaking. The question is can the government force a private entity like Twitter to publish speech they don't agree with.

Just because big tech is big doesn't mean they lose their fundamental rights.
