Exactly what is Cruz supposed to do about the power outage? That is not something he as a senator can help with. I’m sure this was a pre-planned vacation, as they have to work around the Senate schedule. This is hardly like the mayor of Austin telling people to stay home for the holidays while he is in Mexico...

Bingo! Folks in executive departments (presidents, governors, cabinet secretaries, generals, etc.) have a duty to lead during a crisis. But legislators only get in the way.

Sure, the optics are bad here. But that’s only because today’s media gets outraged about everything (except about those things they should get outraged about).

Cruz should be in Washington working on getting emergency relief to Texas--federal or otherwise.

So? He doesn't manage the local 7-11, he's a US senator.
