Mitch McConnell made a subtle dig at Donald Trump as he branded Republicans' losses in the Georgia Senate runoff election a 'fiasco'.
The Republican alluded to the former president's baseless claims of voter fraud which tainted much of the lead-up to the crucial votes and is thought to have helped suppress GOP votes.
Trump's refusal to concede split the party ahead of the runoff which resulted in the Republicans losing their Senate majority.
McConnell told The Wall Street Journal: 'Georgia was a fiasco. We all know why that happened.
'Getting candidates who can actually win in November,' is the priority, McConnell said.
He added: 'That may or may not involve trying to affect the outcome of the primaries.'
McConnell said 'electability' was the main factor for him rather than any particular brand of Republicanism.
McConnell's comments come as Sean Hannity called him 'sanctimonious' and warned he will soon be challenged for leadership of the Republican party after he excoriated Trump and his conduct in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. However, McConnell still voted to acquit the president when the Senate voted on his impeachment.

I was warning my thousands of friends in Georgia long before Nov. 3 election that with Abrams and the legislature changing election rules that the democrats were going to steal the presidential election and force senate run offs and steal them too. The people in south and northwest Georgia got out and voted and investigated machines after the elections. But all was in vain, Kemp and secretary of state and Abrams shredded ballots and judges (including Abrams sister) ignored videos and refused to hear election fraud cases. Georgia has to get fixed along with other states so we have honest elections... otherwise we are screwed.

In a rare moment of fairness to McConnell, Todd Akin of Missouri and Richard Mourdock of Indiana were their own worst enemies back in 2012.
They both acquired a fatal case of foot in mouth disease. Whether or not their comments were correct or not, both showed a real lack of political skills in saying what they did. Both were leading in their races ‘til they opened their mouths.
Mitch controls senate GOP PAC money. Anyone sending money to the senate GOP PAC is a fool. May as well make their donations to the democrats.
More Kabuki Theater. The Georgia election was a fiasco because the other side cheated and our side let them. Period.
Doug Jones got big help from the Turdle, he spent RNC and Senate funds some 30 million to smear Judge Roy Moore.
So Dems and Rinos elected Doug the Dem.

And, McConnell went out of his way to join the Democrats and media in trying to destroy Roy Moore in Alabama. Moore likely would have won if not for his interference.

They were lousy candidates. They didn’t have a message and they avoided the retail politics that people demand. No meet and greets. No hand shaking. Ads were all Karl Rove crap
