Rush Limbaugh Producer Gives Update on Radio Host's Health as He Misses Taping During Cancer Treatment

Rush Limbaugh's staffers said they are "praying for a remission" for his advanced lung cancer, which on Wednesday appeared to cause him to miss a taping of his eponymous radio show.

Limbaugh's producer James Golden tweeted Wednesday that Ken Matthews would fill in for the controversial conservative host "as he continues to fight the illness."

There was also a fill-in for Limbaugh's Thursday episode. A ticker on the show's official website noted that "it's treatment week and Rush will be off the air today."

Limbaugh, 70, was diagnosed with lung cancer in late January 2020, telling fans while on the air that he would miss some upcoming recordings because of either receiving or recovering from treatment.

He has said that he "first realized something was wrong" around Jan. 12 last year, with his diagnosis later confirmed the following week.

"I wish I didn't have to tell you this and I thought about not telling anybody," he said in a February episode of his show. "I thought about trying to do this without anybody knowing 'cause I don't like making things about me."

Still, he said, "This has happened and my intention is to come here every day I can and to do this program as normally and as competently and as expertly as I do each and every day, because that is the source of my greatest satisfaction, professionally, personally."

In May, the infamously incendiary radio personality grew candid in discussing his third round of treatment for the cancer, which he said was "kicking my a--" and had made him "virtually worthless, virtually useless."

At the time, Limbaugh said he had just begun "week two of this third cycle," though "the impact on the tumor in these three weeks is not expected to be significant."

On the left coast and adjacent states his show starts at 9 AM, that’s noon on the leftist coast...

I am betting he tapes the Limbaugh update, which is the approximate length of a commercial.

Cigars are just as bad as cigarettes. In ways, they may be worse, since they are unfiltered. In addition, the tobacco used is much more potent (although I do not have an analysis handy of how the carcinogen levels compare between light tobacco [most cigarettes] and dark tobacco [cigars]). I believe that cigar smokers hold the smoke in their mouths for a longer period of time.

I’ve actually been afraid for a long time that Rush would develop cancer due to his tobacco habit. In fact, every time he would say “in my formerly nicotine stained hands,” I would mentally correct him because he was still just as addicted. So I was saddened but not surprised when he announced his cancer.

“We all have our different reactions to chemo. I may have required a nap once in a while. But I was never totally out of commission.”

You’re extremely lucky. Everyone I’ve known who’s had chemo was totally out of commission at one time or another.

His form of lung cancer is not from smoking IMO. Of course if you were ever around smokers, or smoked yourself doctors consider that the source.

The type normally associated with smoking often can be excised by surgery.

With his money I would think a lung transplant would be possible, but I am ignorant.

My chemo consisted of one pill one time. The only ‘side effect’ was that I couldn’t allow children or wimmin of childbearing age to sit on my lap for a week. Sadly enough, that didn’t affect my life in the slightest...

The moral of the story is chose your cancer wisely!

Yes, Rush smoked cigarettes in his early years... Cigars up until the time he was diagnosed with lung cancer.

...he almost certainly would be able to tape a two or three minute update about his condition. In fact, he did this at least once that I recall.

But he hasn’t been heard from for nearly two weeks now.

Yeah. Very worrisome.

Death is the inevitable conclusion of life, the important thing is are we prepared for life after death? I believe, based on some things that Rush said, he is. I believe that Rush would want everyone that listens to his program to be equally prepared for the coming reality of death.

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved,” just like that. No more, no less. Simply trusting in our Saviour’s death, burial and resurrection with the simple faith of a little child will insure that one day you will be able to sit on a park bench somewhere in glory and have a nice chat with El Rushbo, and to have eternal fellowship with the One that made eternal life possible as the free gift that it is.

infamously incendiary? They had to throw that in.

Because it fits so well with "controversial conservative host".

Perhaps he just had one? That would explain both his absence and the absence of a 2 or 3 minute recorded update?

Were I in his shoes, I don't think I'd announce it in advance. I'd guess he would, but I dunno...

BTW, if anyone knows how to contact James Golden/Bo Snerdly please FReepmail me.

The public Rush number is CLOBBERED, I expect a busy signal, but more than half the time I get the fast busy indicating that all circuits are busy (we crashed the system!) or a long delay, static, and/or nothing (we crashed the system so hard it can’t even tell us we crashed the system!!!).

His most recent appearance on the show was February 2. He was very hoarse. The previous week he explained how tiring it was to have to project his voice from the rear of his throat in order to overcome the hoarseness.

At the start of the third hour, Rush said in some amazement that he’d made two mistakes in the show so far today.

Then he made a statement dismissive of AOC’s supposed post-traumatic stress disorder, and then floundered when callers attacked him for his lack of empathy.

Then a caller wanted to talk about the upcoming financial crisis and Rush let him blab on and on, and then the guy started blaming it all on “Jew bankers” and Rush didn’t notice and didn’t hit the seven-second kill switch.

Asleep at the switch. He said he was dependent on reading the transcription. I believe that he has realized that the disease has affected his attention and he can no longer trust himself to make a professional broadcast.

I would put more money on the fact that he has been sitting in front of electronic equipment for fifty years.

I thought he was in a couple of days last week. Am I crazy or just way too busy to remember when it was that he was there?
