Aunt Jemima brand gets a new name: Pearl Milling Company

Aunt Jemima is making her last batch of pancakes.

Quaker Oats said Tuesday that its Aunt Jemima brand pancake mix and syrup will be renamed Pearl Milling Company. Aunt Jemima products will continue to be sold until June, when the packaging will officially change over.

Quaker Oats, a division of PepsiCo Inc., had announced last June that it would retire the Aunt Jemima brand, saying the character’s origins are “based on a racial stereotype.” The smiling Aunt Jemima logo was inspired by the 19th century “mammy” minstrel character, a Black woman content to serve her white masters. A former slave, Nancy Green, became the first face of the pancake products in 1890.

So stupid. It hurts. Good luck. I don’t buy Aunt Jemima but once every couple of years. I will not buy woke brand BS ever. So sad so bad.

It’s so stupid.

My Black nanny when I was very young was named Pearl.

And she WAS big. My brother and I remember her very fondly.

(She moved on, lost all of that weight, and became an accomplished and highly respected professional, in later years.)

Any man as ancient as he is and still trying to prance around on stage as if he were still young is not cognizant enough of anything valuable to be ‘repentant’.

One would think that a someone with all of his money, resources, and leisure would have ‘evolved’ into somewhat higher interests.

Someday I must try this Popeye’s sandwich. There are a couple of them within 15 miles.

I just haven’t done it yet. I asked somebody the other day - they said it’s just the regular chicken sandwich that you order. Well, I guess I’ll give it a try, hopefully.

I like their red beans and rice.

You have to ask for the SPICY one! The ‘regular’ isn’t at all as interesting.

The only thing I don’t like about it is that my local puts pickles on it that are really kind of tough. Don’t like that.

But altogether, it’s a pretty good and different sandwich.

(I like their mashed potatoes with Cajun gravy a lot, too; and their Cole Slaw is good.)

Thanks. That’s what I’ll ask for when I go.

I believe they will be forced to return to the old name becouse there is no brand recognition. getting rid of a brand name that has been around over 60 years is plain stupid.

I just look at the two products side by side, and see food made by someone who knows damn well how to make something that tastes GOOD, and doesn’t suffer any nonsense, vs. an engineered product ground out by a grim brick building.

Stupid people. Stupid, stupid people.

The Pearl Milling label looks like a knock off brand at a dollar store. Aunt Jemima was breakfast for generations of Americans without concern for her race, just how tasty the products were. Now she's been cancelled along with Nancy Green and all the black women cooking in the home that she represented.

My European grandma looked just like her. They all cooked from scratch and served it up with love.

I just take whatever fruit that is around the house and put it in a pan on the burner with Sugar, Cinnamon, Real Butter, either Local Honey or Karo Syrup and the Fruit cut to whatever size and cook it to soften the fresh Fruit add a pinch of salt and introduce it on the side to be able to dip each piece of the French Toast, Waffles or Pancakes and load up the remaining space on the Plate with Brown Sugar Thick Cut Bacon 🥓 🥓 🥓 🥓 🥓 🥓 🥓 🥓 and grab the Gallon Milk Jug on the way to the Table.

My family had always used Land O’ Lakes butter. Once I became an adult, I’d buy Breakstones, Hotel Bar, or LO’L, but when I tried that *Irish* butter, there was no going back. However, now and then, I’d see Land O’ Lakes on a supermarket shelf, and would laugh to myself about my lifelong fascination with the picture on the carton. It featured the land of lakes, and in the middle of which was a beautiful, very wholesome, young Indian woman holding a carton of the butter bearing the same image, and so forth.

Recently, I ran out of my Irish butter, and the only stuff available in the store I went to was Land O’ Lakes. Since I needed it for that night’s dinner, I decided to buy it and when I looked at it later, the picture seemed pretty sparse with what looked to be an old fashioned font in the center. Something used to be there...now what used to be there? Oh no! They took away the Indian girl!

Et tu, Land O’ Lakes!!! Yep, et them too.

I thought about this sad state of affairs for awhile, and so to cheer myself up I got an idea. Why don’t we change all the packaging of brands we hold so dear to feature woke icons for today. Land O’ Lakes butter can put Fauxcahontas in the center of the landscape; we could have “Uncle Bernie’s” Rice; and how about “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez” Pancakes!

The possibilities are endless!

I represent the OPE, The Oyster Protection Endeavor, and will be calling for a boycott over this new name. It makes a mockery of pearls and the price oysters pay to supply women pearls. I ask everyone to boycott this product!
