The Senate voted Tuesday to move ahead with the unprecedented impeachment trial of former President Trump after listening to hours of arguments on whether it is constitutional to try a president who is already out of office.
The vote was 56-44.
Trump's legal team said the trial is unconstitutional because he's no longer in office and can't face removal, which is the standard judgment of an impeachment conviction.

Good. I thought the argument in favor of constitutionality of the impeachment trail was solid. I also think that setting a precedent for a “January exception” is dangerous. I see the argument against constitutionality as a cop out by cowardly Republicans who don’t to make stance one way or the other on the Articles of Impeachment.
So they can double bill us.
