A Palm Beach County official reportedly contacted legal counsel to inquire about canceling the lease for Trump International Golf Club in unincorporated West Palm Beach.

Howard Falcon, the country’s chief assistant attorney, confirmed to the Palm Beach Post that a county official had contacted him about canceling the land contract for which the president pays the county $88,338 a month in rent.

They won’t squeal. They’ll sell it off to one of their developer friends and get a fatass kickback. Or somos will come in and slam up a boatload of houses.

These people don’t care.

But it would be nice to see the official named and ask them to personally address all the people that will lose their jobs for no reason other than a temper tantrum

Yep, ground leases are typically 50 years.

Make them call their bluff, Mr President! Cancel the lease yourself

Why should he make what they're trying to do easier? If he tries to back out of the lease he will be in breach of contract. If they try to back out of the lease they will be in breach of contract.

Wow, sky's the limit on Trump's damages. Do it PBC.

Oh, wait. Breaking news LOFL...

Palm Beach County, Florida, sought to terminate a contract it has with one of President Donald Trump's golf courses, but an attorney for the region said Friday that it would not be possible.

Howard Falcon, chief assistant county attorney, told Newsweek that "there is no basis" for the county to end its lease with Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.

"I reviewed the matter and concluded we do not have a basis for terminating the lease. Accordingly, I am not continuing to look into the possibility of severing ties," he said in a statement to Newsweek on Friday.

Falcon previously told the Palm Beach Post that an unnamed county commissioner asked him if it would be possible to cut ties with Trump."

Depends on where you are. I've seen 50 years for some commercial leases, and 99 years for residential leases in national parks.

The dumbest ground lease arrangement I've seen in my career was the one for JFK Airport in New York City. The airport itself is owned by the Port Authority of NY & NJ but the land underneath it is owned by New York City. The city used to lease the land to the Port Authority for 20-25 years at a time. As the airport aged over the years, they were desperate to get investors to come in and construct new buildings to serve the passengers and cargo operators that use the airport. The air cargo buildings in particular were old and outdated.

Without a 50+ year lease none of the major industrial developers or hotel chains were willing to build anything there. Why spend a fortune building something on land you don't own and may only be able to use for 20 years? So you had obsolete (and vacant) air cargo buildings all around the airport property, and for years JFK was one of the only major airports in the U.S. without a hotel on the site. Meanwhile, you had cargo buildings and hotels built in the neighborhoods all around the airport where the location was far from ideal.

For all his flaws, Mayor Bloomberg put an end to that in the early 2000s when he signed the longest lease for the airport -- I believe out to 2050.

Even thought this was only put into court filings yesterday and removed today, I suspect the DoJ was telling this to Pelosi before the impeachment on Wednesday.

The DoJ whipped the House into a frenzy to impeach the same way that Antifa agent provocateurs whipped the Trump rally crowd outside the Capitol building.

Why doesn't Trump move to Texas

I was thinking the same thing just the other day.
I guaran-damn-tee you that no leftist would harass him in Texas with impunity.
A boot in the ass would be the likely consequence.

Why doesn’t Trump move to Texas

Because the Trump organization caters to the international super-rich, which is probably why they hire seasonal H-2B visa workers from Europe to staff their properties (attractive 20somethings who speak several languages).

I don't think Texas is a destination for this class of people.

I thought Florida liked Trump? I’m so sick of these vindictive people. He did such good things for the country. He deserves far better treatment than all this.

They simply want to destroy any means of revenue Trump has or could have...and his Brand. Additionally his character.

Trumps Presidency destroyed all their speculative investments Hillary would have yielded had she won...as Bette midler said....”Trump broke us and we want it back!”

That can be fixed real fast with 3 of 4 graders. Just give them the land back.
