Southern Baptist leaders condemned protesters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, occupying legislative chambers and various lawmakers’ offices. The SBC leaders called for peace – and called Christians to prayer.
“Peaceable transitions of power have marked our Republic since the beginning,” SBC President J.D. Greear posted on Twitter. “It is part of honoring and submitting to God’s ordained leaders whether they were our choice or not. We need you, @POTUS to condemn this mob. Let’s move forward together. Praying for safety.”
Ronnie Floyd, president and CEO of the SBC Executive Committee, said he was “deeply grieved over the destruction and violence at the U.S. Capitol. The peaceful transfer of power is a hallmark of American democracy, and today we saw the opposite of peace. This is not what we are called to be as Americans, and this is surely not what we are called to be as Christians.
“Let’s continue to pray for America.”
Likewise, Russell Moore, president of the SBC’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, condemned a “mob attack.”
“This mob attack on our Capitol and our Constitution is immoral, unjust, dangerous, and inexcusable,” Moore tweeted. “What has happened to our country is tragic, and could have been avoided.”
Greear is a jackass. And he is NOT leader of the Southern Baptist Church because there is no such animal. The SBC hos no power over any Southern Baptist Church.
The Southern Baptist “leaders” have been basically “never trumpers”
Someone - anyone - please post condemnation made by this organization when rioting occurred throughout 2020. I’d like to see what their record is. I don’t remember reading anything from this denomination.
The Southern Baptists used to be a reliable Christian church.
Are they still?
Condemn and pray? Don’t stop there! Apologize for it and vote Democrat and don’t forget to send them money, which is their life’s blood.
hear, hear
Too bad those southern Baptist leaders aren’t woke enough to know they’re at the top of the extinction list.
The enemy has launched the breakout from the Arden Forest at us and these types focus on and want to court martial some privates who didn’t square up their bunk that morning. Pathetic.
“Franklin Graham is the only effective nationwide Christian leader in the USA currently.”
I don’t necessarily disagree.
But I was disappointed last year when he, or a staff member, repudiated the Constitution’s provision for bail.
Yup, first ones to be rounded up and hauled off to the camps at Google Gulag for re-education.
They just had to go there.
Tax The Churches!
Profiles in Courage!
When will they condemn Antifa rioting?
Exactly what I was wondering.
What is needed is Christian leaders to acknowledge what is happening to our country. They’ve been conditioned by the Left to be silent about politics. The gloves are off now. Time to call the vipers out.
You are right. . . .however local churches donate $$$$$$$$$$ to the SBC . .how else do these people get paid?????
Good points.
I’m not sure everyone who entered the Capital Building
realized it was a breach. Some of them may have felt
that the authorities had order them to be allowed in.
That’s if the officer reports about allowing people to
go in is valid.
“It is part of honoring and submitting to God’s ordained leaders whether they were our choice or not.
If someone steals this idiot’s car, does that mean the theft was ordained by God? He would not call the police?
Misplaced theology. Paul said submit to the powers that be; in the United States our founding documents specify that the people are the powers that be, government is by consent of the governed.
And the America people voted by a landslide for Trump.
Wonder what they thought about Benghazi?
Great, now let’s see them condemn antifa too.
I really don’t understand why some Freepers seem to think the Capitol rioters are any better than the BLM and antifa thugs. If it loots like antifa and commits violence like antifa, it’s probably antifa. And even if it isn’t it it handed the Dems an excuse to impeach and/or 25A Trump on a golden platter, petty though it is to deprive him of a whole 11 days in office.
Cowards. Where was their condemnation of Antifa and BLM riots. They’d have been better off keeping their mouths shut.
