McConnell circulates procedures for second senate impeachment trial of Trump

Outgoing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Friday circulated to colleagues a memo outlining the procedure for holding another trial for President Trump if the House impeaches him for a second time in just over a year.

The document, which was first reported by The Washington Post, lays out how the Senate would proceed if the House approves articles of impeachment and transmits them to the upper chamber before or by Jan. 19, when senators are scheduled to resume regular business after the January recess.

What makes you think they will follow the constitution?

They are not now.

Yes you can impeach an ex-President to remove his eligibility to run for office again. It’s an extraordinary waste of public funds and legislative time, but you can do it.

Has it ever been done? Impeachment is for removal from office. The eligibility part comes after the removal. If no removal is possible, neither is the eligibility ban.

You may not like the Toitle, but we’re part of the same coalition. Think of RINO’s as the French - always bitching and complaining - and the Democrats as the Soviet Union.

The vote to certify the rigged election that disenfranchised 75 million voters in the GOP Senate was 93-7. They are most certainly not in our coalition. Your GOP bootlicking posts are little more than buffoonery at this point. Only a few GOP hobbyists are buying what you are selling at this point.

Are they so full of themselves to risk all out Civil War? Maybe think they can’t be touched? Most likely they will get more protection but lower level Democrats will not be afforded that protection and easy prey..

I think if Trump had access to do a document dump he would have by now.

He knows what would happen to his party if he capitulates to the dems impeachment ploy against our President.

As opposed to certifying a rigged election? China Mitch is hardly a fine tactician. The GOP is a smoking ruin now and you can thank his enabling of the coup and backstabbing for it.

It would appear Mr. Trump has in his possession much documentation that however released will be very, very damaging to some people, especially Biden and people who colluded with him. McConnell is scared as are many Republicans. Yet if they ever moved to actually have a trial and remove Trump with some rump procedure, the country would be ungovernable.

The Uniparty are not going to impeach and convict Trump. They are going to arrest him and charge him with inciting a riot.

The leftists on Twitter want it done so Trump won’t be eligible to hold federal office ever again. They’re terrified he will run again in 2024.

Thanks for the info. Not saying the Dems wouldn’t try because they are that insane. All they will get out of it is to set a precedent that puts a target on their own backs.

[It seems to me that 75 million people can certainly do something more or less together.2]

There aren’t 75m people looking to leave the GOP. And Freepers are a tiny fringe of that 75m people. It’s a coalition. We all have different views on a great many things. Conservatives already have difficulty winning a majority of the popular vote. We don’t need that minority splitting up into even smaller pieces. Democrats love third parties on the right. That’s how Slick Willy got two terms.

Seriously, I’ve checked out. Republicans at the national level are mostly a clown show. I’ll back proven fighters. I’ll primary quislings. I’m a law and order, fiscally responsibie, cultural conservative. If those things don’t matter to my representative, that goof doesn’t matter to me. Bringing home the bacon bits and pork rinds doesn’t cut it.

I think if Trump had access to do a document dump he would have by now.

I used to work for a part of the federal .gov for a while when I was younger.

It was an obscure little corner of the bureaucracy, and _I_ had access to documents that could have damaged a _lot_ of people inside and outside of .gov--ended their careers at a minimum.

It would have gotten me fired for sure, and I had no interest in going there, but my point is that if little obscure nobody _me_ had those kinds of documents, imagine what the President of the United States has.
