Chief Steven Sund of the Capitol Police is stepping down following Wednesday's debacle at the nation's Capitol. Sund's resignation is effective January 16.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle called on Sund to resign after a large crowd of Trump supporters gathered in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday and a contingent of demonstrators breached the U.S. Capitol. Congressional offices were ransacked and rioters made their way onto the House floor.

Officers are "frustrated and demoralized" with how a lack of leadership undermined the response to the mob, according to a statement from Gus Papathanasiou, the union chairman. Papathanasiou laid the blame on a failure and planning while praising officers for their work.
"We prioritized lives over property, leading people to safety," the statement said. "Not one Member of Congress or their staff was injured. Our officers did their jobs. Our leadership did not. Our Law Enforcement partners that assisted us were remarkable.”
The statement fell just short of calling for the force's chief, Steven Sund, to resign. Sund commended officers earlier Thursday, calling their actions "heroic" and slammed the chaos that erupted as "criminal riotous behavior."
The Associated Press reported that Capitol Police turned down an offer from the Pentagon to receive help from the National Guard in preparation for the planned event. Despite heightened tensions over a contentious election and Antifa's history of counterprotests, the Capitol Police planned only for a free speech demonstration.
Back in June, Democrats and the media bashed law enforcement over their response to angry rioters who gathered outside the White House and set fire to historic St. John’s Episcopal Church. The AP reports that officials were determined to avoid any appearance of the federal government deploying active duty or National Guard troops against Americans following the White House incident. But the media's recognition of violence at left-wing events versus right-wing events is night and day.
As protesters stormed the Capitol on Wednesday, one Trump supporter was shot and killed by Capitol Police. A Utah man known for organizing violent Antifa and BLM protests was spotted standing near the gunned down woman. Footage also shows Trump supporters attempting to stop members in the crowd from breaking into the Capitol.
So what was she expecting??? Well, just like all the other Democrat Mayors and Governors, She doesn't trust the Federales or the Military because they are controlled by The Commander In Chief of the United States and lost control deliberately and surely and SHE SHOULD BE FIRED if anybody is to be terminated for rotten judgement!!!
So much easier to resign than face the music.
Right or wrong, in good and bad, Trump has kept his hand to the plow. And the days and weeks and months never got easier—they became harder. Weathering impeachment wasn’t the end of the worst, it was the beginning.
Trump has yet to say, “I quit.” He takes responsibility for all of his triumphs and failings.
Now why would he feel compelled to do this?
‘
There was no warning given either.
Defenseless lady - and Vet.
Hey, what are they complaining about? They got to shoot and kill an unarmed female veteran. What more do they want?
This was done on purpose.
This guy is fine with being the fall guy.
Hes got a great penson and probably a little extra allowing this to occur.
The dems wanted it to occur in order to tun the patriots into scapegoats.
This is clasic reichstag fire. To the letter.
No, just an,unarmed citizen shot to death.
“Hey, what are they complaining about? They got to shoot and kill an unarmed female veteran. What more do they want?”
Earlier today and last night, people here were saying everyone in the Capitol was Anitfa.
I guarantee you if the Capitol Chief of Police was black, he would face no consequences, and he would not resign.
“Leaving a defensive position to expose oneself to danger is NOT A DEFENSIVE MOVE. This was a deliberate offensive move to get closer for a kill shot.”
I watched those videos several times, and I came to the exact same conclusion you did.
Union will circle the wagons around him, and he will be quietly given some nearly meaningless union-centric award later on.

Capitol Police waving in the protestors!
What a trap.
Bet this guy resigning gets a great cushy no-show job from one of Nancy’s cronies- as long as he keeps his mouth shut on the staged “riot”.
“Trump has yet to say, “I quit.” He takes responsibility for all of his triumphs and failings.”
That’s why I have so much respect for him.
What about the murdering cop. Has he been fired?
May not have been a cop?
Black man/woman/it shooting unarmed woman in Capitol Bldg?
He was possibly not a cop/guard? How about maybe a congressit? Wanting to take out someone!

I’m guessing and may be wrong that he has a generous federal retirement waiting for him. Most governmental “resignations” work like that....
“This is clasic reichstag fire. To the letter.”
And the media know it but still join in... and want ‘respect’?
Well most of the mediass of the germans blamed the jews for it.
So they are backing their buddies the same way.
Let's say she was a black felon fleeing after committing a crime, turns on the cops displaying a gun and the cops shoot the black criminal dead. There would be thousands marching in the streets, looting, burning buildings and attacking innocent bystanders. And none of those protesters would be convicted or jailed.
But this veteran lady was not a black felon with a lethal weapon pointed at cops. This is why Trump supporters are protesting. Because the MSM, legal system, and government swamp dwellers are hypocrites, thieves and just plain evil.
Civil War, baby. It's on.
This man led the police force who shot and killed an unarmed woman in cold blood. Who was the cop who pulled the trigger? That cop needs to be named and indicted for murder. Why did the capitol police stand down and allow the antifa crowd to enter the building? It almost seems that all of that was planned?
