The Senate wrapped up a rare New Year's Day session with Republicans rejecting President Donald Trump's demand for $2,000 COVID-19 aid checks and overriding his veto of a sweeping defense bill, an unusual one-two rebuke at the end of a chaotic Congress.
Democrats tried a final time to push forward a House-passed bill that would boost the $600 direct aid payments just approved by Congress to $2,000 as Trump demanded for millions of Americans. Republicans blocked a vote, arguing in favor of a more targeted approach.
The rejection of Trump's top priorities, along with the first veto override of his presidency, offered an unusual willingness by the president's party to confront Trump, now in his final days in the White House after losing the November election to President-elect Joe Biden.

Oh, you got visions of grandeur and serious butt hurt. Sorry, get a reality check. Trump folded over and over again. He did it now with no leverage. Sure, McConnell and Republicans tricked him but shame on Trump for not putting action to his words. He’s once again proved to be the ‘Trust me, I won’t do it again’. Now, 18 days until he is gone and at this point, good riddance. Defend him further if you want, but he is no different or better than Lyn’ Ted. Better that at least he’s a natural born citizen.
...and I think we need to look at governors, definitely skip over all of the representatives and senators. There are a number of potential governors that might step up, maybe Kristi Noem?

The RINO-controlled Senate continues screaming, at the top of its lungs, that it's a full-fledged member of the Democrat Party Cabal that perpetrated massive nationwide Presidential election fraud in 2020. Yet, some Trump voters still think they can depend on congressional RINOs (including Mitt McConnell) to support President Trump. LOL.
That is NOT in the Covid bill. There re two bills attached at the hip. The Defense Bill is a third bill and is independent.
The 230 Liability protection is not going anywhere. Not in a million years. Why the hell anyone is beating their head against that wall when there is real work to be done?
We had a landslide election for President Trump that was stolen most likely along with scores of house and senate seats and instead of standing tall these guys are all cowering in the corners... D I S G U S T I N G ! ! !
Based on my understanding, the Rats blocked the appointments. The only way it could have been sped up is if the GOP would have changed the rules to drop the threshold from 60 votes to 51. And, the moderate GOP members would not let that happen.
The judges could move through because the GOP only needed to meet the 51 vote threshold.
Am I wrong?
I am sorry I got confused about which thread that I was replying to you on... but the point remains the same. Right now Republicans in the Senate and the house need to be a strong unified block that is supporting the president.
You answered your own question: “the moderate GOP members would not let that happen.”
Trump exposed them yes but guess what, they still got voted for. They still will order us around like the gutless serfs we have become.
People will not push back with the violence that is necessary, America no longer has the balls to defend itself from the enemies within.
Just to be clear. They needed a 60 view threshold unless the rules were changed. Right?
Been saying all along, the major chant of the American people is:
Where
is
my
government
money?
Good answer would be "Okay. I will give the RNC the difference between $600 and my $2,000 stimulus check I got."
Telemarketer for RNC: "But you didn't get that money. The GOP voted Trump down."
You: "Exactly. KMA."
The GOP (Senate) just confirmed it’s death knell...
It might also cost the GA runoffs...
All of which confirms the Nations communist conversion...
Guess what, nitwit ... if he had vetoed the omnibus/COVID bill they would have overridden that veto, too.
I blame the defeat of Trump on the $2,000 amount as Trump’s fault.
That one item was a fight he did not need to pick with the Senate GOP. $2,000 per person is not necessary, and exaggerates the degree to which the whole bill is spending for which the nation must borrow to pay for it.
The fight that Trump and the Senate GOP could have gotten together on would have been against all the crap larded into the original ball that offered $600 payments, and lost of crony vote buying goodies from both sides of the aisle.
Trump did what he could on that bill offering to rescind items he did not approve of.
But going to the mat just for $2,000 per person in extra “stimulus” was an error, in my view.
Isn’t that OUR MONEY to begin with?!?!
How are they going to do that? If President Trump is not re-elected. If this fraud election is not reversed. There will never be an honest election again. Holding anyone accountable for anything will only be a dream.
It is amazing that people are still saying things like that given what we know now.
All you’re saying is you side with Mitch on the $2k checks, and against Trumps position.
That’s the old, pre-Trump Republican orthodoxy. “We don’t have enough money to help Americans at home! We only have enough money for foreign wars and foreign aid!”
