These 20 states will raise their minimum wage by January 1

Twenty states are raising their minimum wage rates — some by pennies,
others by a dollar or more — as part of previously-scheduled efforts
to adjust for cost-of-living gains or to ratchet up toward goals like
$15-an-hour minimum pay.

In New Mexico, the minimum wage will increase to $10.50, up $1.50
from the current $9 wage. And in California, the rate for employers
with 26 workers or more will rise from $13 to $14 an hour, the highest
state-wide baseline in the country. In Minnesota, the gain is just
8 cents, to a $10.08 hourly rate for large employers.

We’ll find out soon. In fact, I encourage workers at Amazon and Wal-Mart to unionize. It might allow smaller businesses a chance to compete.

True. What’s also happening is that more and more of the low-skill jobs are being automated simply because the employers can’t find enough workers even at the inflated pay rates.

Yeah well we won’t be having President Trump much longer so we will see our country open her borders again. That will put pressure on our lower skilled workers, especially many minority employees. They have experienced sizable wage increases during Trump administration. That won’t be the case in the next couple of years.

According to most all Freepers they want to not only stop any minimum wage increases but they want to get rid of it all together. This is the problem with the GOP. You can get a feel for it right here.

Unless Biden changes the EIC tables, a lot of these folks will be surprised.

I’ve read that Subway Franchisees already cannot make a profit selling their Footlong Sandwiches for $5 or even the newer pricing of $5.99.

I’m sure these increases will kill off many of the remaining Small Businesses who have so far survived the Kung Flu Government shutdowns.

I’m in the process of reviewing a development application for a 100 foot tall building that will be the first automated warehouse building in the region.

Before now, the only warehouse buildings of this sort were located in places where land was extremely expensive — like the air cargo building at Hong Kong’s airport, for example.

This building is being proposed in an area where land is actually CHEAP. It’s being developed as an automated warehouse by a user that is looking to break out of its current constraints where its low-skill work force is filled with people who commute there from towns 50+ miles away.

If you are a Subway Franchisee, you might as well as be an Indian family so everyone can work together and not have to pay too much in wages.

.....”workers are migrating from skilled jobs to low-skill jobs because the low-skill work now pays more”.....

A retail manager left to take a job as a clerk at Wal-mart in my area because it paid more.

The Subway parent company will lease them robots to do the key jobs—and then the economics will work.

Low wage workers are not only competing with the robots that exist today, they are competing with the robots that will exist in the near future.

You're right. That has already happened, for the most part.

I once had a discussion on another forum about buasiness and business planning, start ups etc.

There was one poster who told me he believed the following. backwards
If our (or any) economy is in recession due to a lack of consumer spending the solution is to have manufacturers ramp up production and hire additional people to do so. This person believed if you produce more product the demand for that product will increase. This of course is completely backwards.

He also told me those with money should start a business primarily to hire people and provide them with a better life. No amount of explaining could convince this person that the sole reason for starting a for profit business is....FOR PROFIT and as much of it as can legally be made.

I further told him that if any employer and/or entrepreneur could run their operation without a single employee by way of automation they would do so in a heartbeat(it is happening now in many areas of retail and manufacturing and it will continue to grow.

He called a heartless Conservative, money grubbing scumbag and ended the discussion.

I think that was you.

Don’t forget Flagstaff, AZ^ (City Motto: “Poverty With A VIEW”) bumping their minimum wage to $15.00 hourly and $12.99/hr for tipped employees.

City government that makes the ‘Deep State’ appear imaginary.

The elites think the masses of humanity are natural resources (like oil, minerals, agricultural products) and need to be exploited.

Really? She gave more evidence that the elites are trying to kill off the masses. Perhaps it's both, they want to exterminate most and enslave the rest. In any case her claim that a human slave is more valueable than ever was not backed up with any kind of data. In fact the price of a slave was $400 at the start of the Civil War, and today an African slave goes for $90 where it is still "legal" to sell them.

Don’t be ridiculous. I understand the laws of supply and demand and you don’t. You don’t like the fact that the laws of supply and demand apply to labor too. You want set wages and control wages BUT YO CAN’T. This is not the USSR Komrade.
