Cawthorn made the announcement at Turning Point USA’s Student Action Summit in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he was delivering a keynote speech.
“In a lot of these liberal swing states, which have liberal Governors and liberal Secretaries of State, you can see they have broken the law and gone against our Constitution in this election,” Madison Cawthorn stated in his speech.
“And because of that, on January 6 – the people of western North Carolina sent me to do a job – I will be contesting the election!”
Cawthorn joins other incoming members of Congress such as Rep.-elect Barry Moore (R-AL) and Rep.-elect Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-GA) in joining the effort, which was pioneered by Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL). Since then, numerous rising stars within the party have signed on, including Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) and Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL).
Brooks’ letter posits that mass fraud has rendered the results of the 2020 election to be illegitimate, and thus Congress is obliged not to certify the illegitimate election.
“I’m doing this because in my judgment this is the worst election theft in the history of the United States,” Brooks told The Hill in a recent interview. “And if there was a way to determine the Electoral College outcome using only lawful votes cast by eligible American citizens, then Donald Trump won the Electoral College.”
Brooks also explained that this unprecedented step became necessary after it became impossible for courts to “determine how many illegal votes were cast and who they were cast for”, as the 1993 National Voters Rights Act had opened “the floodgates for illegal aliens and other noncitizens to register to vote”. He noted that there was a much stronger constitutional argument for Congress to take the reins of settling the contested election than for the courts to get involved.
Good for him. The Freshman class looks very promising for conservatives.
Go Madison !
Sebastian Gorka went over the process in detail on NewsMax tonight. He said EACH objection has to have at least 2 hours of debate before a vote and moving on. If the GOP can get to Jan 18, then the House delegations decide the President - he also said this is how Thomas Jefferson was elected. (I haven’t researched that yet)
I’m thinking it will take DOZENS of congress critters (House and Senate) to actually make a difference.
I hope they can deadlock the EC vote. Even if that means it goes to Congress to decide.
It wasn’t TJ. It was JQ Adams.
Seeing that in contested swing states judges are afraid to hear cases because they would need to overturn votes, I wonder what would happen if Dominion votes were contested in a state like North Carolina where we might get a judge to consider a lawsuit where he/she wouldn’t be considering a state where the election was already decided? Maybe look at Dominion without having to overturn an election? You know, take a look at the most important consideration with regard to democracy? Gee, I don’t want to be controversial or anything.
Madison is smart. He’s new, so he is building his credibility and reputation. He has very little to lose by taking a position on the election that Dems and RINOs will not like.
All of that will require far more party discipline than I have ever seen the Republicans display. If the shoe was on the other foot and the Rats needed that level of discipline to deliver the presidency to their candidate. No question they could do it ! GOP’ers first bit of pushback & MSM criticism and they will be cowering under desks clutching their crying towels.
These are MAGA Republicans!!
The new kids are the rabble rousers willing to do it
The old timers just want their grift
Still remains to be seen if any Senators will cross Mitch
They should all be shamed for voting for this pork monstrosity
FINALLY!! Some politicians with balls. The fact so many of them are freshmen is significant.
I really think they need the legislatures to certify the alternate electors and someone to grow spines in all the senators to make this work.
Agree !
Though I thought Rand Paul & Ted Cruz were going to rabble rouse on the Senate side?
Yes they certainly are MAGA Republicans. May they increase and multiply and save this Republic!
“He said EACH objection has to have at least 2 hours of debate before a vote and moving on.”
I don’t think that’s correct. It looks to me that Pelosi and Mitchell can ram through votes to reject objections in a rapid manner.
You Betcha !!! And they would tell how it was part of the Jeffersonian Tradition while doing it !
Whoever doesn’t stand (literally) in support of the President will be left behind in the old and withering, soon to be defunct Republican Party.
The rest will move on with us.
