Idaho's attorney general says he's declining to join a lawsuit filed by Texas seeking to overturn the outcome of the presidential election by invalidating the results in four battleground states Donald Trump lost. Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden in a statement Thursday said the decision is necessary to protect Idaho's sovereignty. Here is the full statement:
"I've spent substantial time reviewing Texas's Bill of Complaint so I could fully understand and consider the legal arguments being made. After doing so, I am declining to join this effort. As I have done since the day I took my oath of office – in which I pledged to uphold and protect both the Idaho and U.S. constitutions – I strive to protect the State of Idaho's legal interests. As is sometimes the case, the legally correct decision may not be the politically convenient decision. But my responsibility is to the State of Idaho and the rule of law. This decision is necessary to protect Idaho's sovereignty. As Attorney General, I have significant concerns about supporting a legal argument that could result in other states litigating against legal decisions made by Idaho's legislature and governor. Idaho is a sovereign state and should be free to govern itself without interference from any other state. Likewise, Idaho should respect the sovereignty of its sister states."
On Wednesday, the Idaho Republican Party announced it will file an amicus brief in support of the Texas suit:
The Idaho Republican Party fully supports Texas in its efforts to ensure that our elections meet the high standards and expectations of the U.S. Constitution. The people need certainty and clarity to restore their faith that the integrity of our elections was maintained.Gov. Brad Little announced Thursday he proudly stands with the Idaho Republican Party in supporting Texas in its efforts to ensure American's elections meet the highest standards and expectations of the U.S. Constitution, and he will file an amicus brief in support of the lawsuit. "Idaho's elections are safe and secure, and we expect the same of other states. Protecting the sanctity of the voting process is paramount to ensuring a strong democratic process, and our citizens need the confidence that their vote counts."
And Governor Little is a worthless squish as well.
This is appalling.
I know people who’ve moved to Idaho thinking it’s a refuge from the insanity. Now I’m wondering what’s in store for ID.
So election fraud and government corruption is now a State’s
Rights issue? You libs really want to die on that hill?
He manages to completely miss the point of the suit. It is that the legislatures of those states had prescribed how the elections should work and Constitutionally un-authorized entities took it upon themselves to change the rules. If he wants to protect the power of Idaho’s legislature to manage elections in Idaho then he should join the suit. Idiot? Corrupt? Corrupt idiot?
Idaho is a future vassal of Kalifornia.
You’re talking to one of them! We got so thoroughly sick of corrupted California we left for ID (well, partially left — we kept our CA house) and moved close to where the family landed in 1920.
This is SO disappointing. Socialist mayor in Boise. A worthless governor. A worthless AG. The Dems are very active in ID now. I wonder where this is heading.
Sounds like the Idaho Attorney General and the Georgia Attorney General are dues paying members of the RINO/ANTI-TRUMP wing of the Republican Party.
Idaho voters—Never Forget when the AG comes up for election again.
other states litigating against legal decisions made by Idaho’s legislature and governor.
Thats the point: the decisions re: the election in the rogue states were not legal.
OTH, and I hate to say this but am going to toss it out for consideration: Governors emergency powers have been upheld everywhere....so much so that they are not even seriously challenged. Those powers were granted by the legislatures. Could their argument be that these changes were made because of the PANDEMIC pursuant to the exercise of emergency powers already given?
Please tell me that won’t wash....
Maybe New Idaho will file an amicus brief in the way that New California and New Nevada did?
He needs to be forced to find other work.
Idaho isn’t what people think it is, it’s being Californicated.
“I wonder where this is heading.”
It isn’t good.
The Idaho judicial branch is infected with those controlled by large bank establishments.
Although the citizenry is largely conservative, the power players at the top lay low in the background and enrich themselves.
This low level enrichment has been playing out in many states we wouldn’t expect.
That’s how corruption works, like a disease it spreads. It’s just quieter in conservative states.
............Mr. Wasden’s logic (cough) reminds of that old saying about “he’s stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime”..................
I note that in a recent primary he won by just over 1%. This move on his part should sink his ship.
There are a lot of Mitt Romney’s people in Idaho. I cannot help but wonder if the Idaho AG is one of them.
At least the Idaho Republican Party is amicus brief supporting the Texas suit and Gov. Brad Little said he supports the Idaho Republican Party in its support of Texas. Little said he will file an amicus brief in support of the lawsuit.
The ID Lieutenant Governor quickly wrote back to me on Tuesday this week with a supportive letter.
So the AG is out by himself. It’s disappointing that the entire ID legislature didn’t support the suit or file an amicus brief.
So we are seeing the SORO’s traitors and RATS reveal themselves now.
So sorry to hear that - I considered Idaho but really want something warmer. My friends in FL are happy but it’s at the opposite end of the country from my family. I guess that’s what airplanes are for.
A comprehensive exposé story was published a year or two ago about how the socialist mayor of Boise won her election. No surprise — her success is tied directly to many radical Soros-backed leftist organizations.
respecting the sovereignty now means allowing other states to cheat and steal a national election, i guess
what a pilate
