Court rules 5-4 that restrictions violated First Amendment as new Justice Amy Coney Barrett casts decisive vote.
The Supreme Court late Wednesday struck down New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's new COVID-19 restrictions on religious gatherings, as new Justice Amy Coney Barrett cast one of her first high-impact votes and Chief Justice John Roberts sided in dissent with the court's liberal bloc.
In a 5-4 decision, the court said Cuomo's restrictions violated the Constitution's First Amendment right to freedom of worship and granted an injunction barring the rules from being enforced.
"Members of this Court are not public health experts, and we should respect the judgment of those with special expertise and responsibility in this area," the majority opinion said. "But even in a pandemic, the Constitution cannot be put away and forgotten. The restrictions at issue here, by effectively barring many from attending religious services, strike at the very heart of the First Amendment’s guarantee of religious liberty."
Justice Roberts aligned with the totalitarians again. Bushes Souter and Roberts. Never ever vote for another Bush.
Should have been 9 to 0. Or at least 6 to 3. Roberts is joining the Reliably Left.

roberts is not even pretending to be impartial judge applying laws faithfully. he is the new RBG of court.
We all knew who Roberts is. Just should be thankful today that President Trump has Amy on the court now.
Why is it so hard for them to tell us exactly who voted which way on all 9? I thought we had 5 conservatives: Kavanaugh, Barrett, Gorsuch, Thomas, and (sometimes) Roberts? But if we won 5 to 4, yet Roberts sided with the liberals, did one of the liberals come over? Who was the fifth vote??
