WPLG reporter Glenna Milberg approached the South Florida address listed for Alex Rodriguez earlier this week ready to pepper him with questions: Why had the 55-year-old mechanic abruptly decide to run for office? How did he win nearly 3 percent of the vote without even a website? Did he live in Miami at all?
“I’m looking for Alex,” she told a white-haired man who answered the door. “Is he around?”
“Uh, no. He’ll be back tomorrow, though,” the man replied, refusing to say where Rodriguez was, how to reach him, or why a man with no history in politics — a registered Republican until a few months ago — had become an unaffiliated candidate for Florida’s 37th State Senate District.
Days later, Milberg discovered the man at the door had been lying. He was, in fact, Rodriguez, whose more than 6,000 votes may have tipped the election away from a Democratic incumbent in Miami with the same last name.

It would have been perfectly fine if this was done to flip an R seat to D.

There was some utterly unqualified guy that ran for a judgeship in western washington around 25 years ago (when I lived there) that had the same name as some famous person. He didn’t campaign, but just registered as a candidate.
Typically, I don’t vote for judgeships unless I’ve studied up on the candidates. If I haven’t, I’m not going to check any of them. But apparently a lot of people do anyway.
He won.

This bugs me. Reporters act like they are arresting officers, if they shove a microphone in your face, they assume you are required by law to answer and/or only a criminal hiding something refuses to cooperate with the press.
Really no different that what’s done to us when states give Libertarians a free ride to get on the ballot.
It’s slightly underhanded. But I wouldn’t call it dirty, dirty would be if he changed his full name to be the same as the other person running.
And even that would not rise to the level of fraud. There is no law that says people who happen to have the same name as a major Rep or Dem candidate are prohibited from running.
There is hope that the little guy CAN have a say in American Mob Elections.
How many “Libertarians” who routinely throw close elections to Dems are actually libertarians?
Of all the irregularities that have reared their head in this election, the Washington Post chooses to investigate this? Wouldn’t want to spend any time investigating huge pro-Biden vote dumps, would we?
How do they know he took away Democrat votes?
