WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal regulators have authorized emergency use of another COVID-19 treatment, the anti-inflammatory drug baricitinib, to be used in combination with a drug already used to treat severely ill, hospitalized patients.

The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday cleared the new use for Eli Lilly’s pill baricitinib plus remdesivir for hospitalized adults and children two years and older requiring oxygen or ventilation therapy.

Remdesivir is the first and only drug approved by FDA to treat COVID-19. The emergency clearance for baricitinib acts as a preliminary approval until more data is available showing the drug works for COVID-19.

The FDA said the drug combination appeared to reduce recovery time in hospitalized patients, compared to patients who received only remdesivir.

what about those at home who are struggling but not yet at the point of hospitalization

can we get a drug before it all goes south?

Btw, trump is right..he is responsible for these drugs. Without him it would still be in red tape hell

All cures must run through the correct money channels. HCQ and many others are not approved because they don’t make anyone money for big pharma fedgov donors.

Your instincts are correct. Their own studies show that the drug is not effective when delivered at late stages in the disease. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/lilly-antibody-drug-fails-study-hospitalized-covid-patients-other-trials-n1244900 To be effective, it must be taken earlier.

that is such a huge problem..no one wants to prescribe what might do some good while you are still at home.

I take Vitamin C, Vitamin D, zinc and quercetin 3x per week to strengthen my immune system.

If I were to develop flu-like symptoms or test positive for COVID-19 my plan is to take vitamin C every 3 hours to bowel tolerance, increase vitamin D to 5000 IU daily, 50 mg zinc and 500 mg quercetin daily. Then I’d add a daily aspirin if my stomach can handle it. COVID-19 is associated with heart attacks, strokes and microclots, so a blood thinner like aspirin seems like a good idea. A loss of taste and smell is both a symptom of COVID and associated with a zinc deficiency, so I’d double up on the zinc if I lost my appetite.

I’m not a doctor. Your plan may differ. Dr. Fauci takes vitamin C and vitamin D daily but hasn’t added them to the official government guidelines. (Officially the government recommends NOTHING until you are hospitalized and gasping for breath.) Dr. Oz recommended Vitamin D, zinc and Vitamin C to boost your immunity, so I’m glad that word is finally getting out. Dr. Oz’s specific dosage recommendations are 1200 IU of vitamin D daily, 8 mg zinc/day for women (11 mg/day men), and 200 mg/day vitamin C. That’s before you get sick. Dr. Fauci takes 1000 mg/day vitamin C.
