Outgoing Ambassador Jim Jeffrey, the U.S. special envoy for Syria, admitted in an interview with Defense One to misleading President Donald Trump about the true number of U.S. troops deployed in Syria and convincing the president not to withdraw troops.
Jeffrey said, “We were always playing shell games to not make clear to our leadership how many troops we had there.” Jeffrey said the actual number of troops in northeast Syria is “a lot more than” the approximately 200 troops Trump agreed to keep in the country in 2019

What consequences? Lose security clearance? Fire instead of leaving? Any prosecution possible? Maybe a criminal investigation—at least cost him 10s of thousands in legal bills and make him unemployable.

Jeffrey was amongst 50 Republican national security officials who in August 2016 signed a letter stating Donald Trump was not "qualified to be President and Commander-in-Chief" and "would put at risk our country’s national security and well-being", so would not be voting for him.
Nevertheless in 2018 the Trump administration appointed Jeffrey United States Special Representative for Syria Engagement and in 2019 also Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

I just had some dipstick on another thread tell me to “calm down” when I said that allowing this electoral fraud to go unpunished would mean the end of this country as we know it.
It is things LIKE THIS that go unpunished, that show just how eroded the rule of law has become due to this “Oh, this is no big deal, this is the way things have always been, it is no worse, life will go on...”
