Breaking: Judge denies change-of-venue motions in George Floyd trial

For now, anyway, four former members of the Minneapolis Police Department will face a jury of their Hennepin County peers. Despite massive riots in Minneapolis and a national spotlight on the death of George Floyd, Judge Peter Cahill rejected motions this morning from all four defendants to move the trial out of the Twin Cities. Cahill also rejected separation motions, meaning all four will face trial together:

The jurors will come from Hennepin County and only be partially sequestered? That seems like an odd ruling when the judge is already tipping his hat to the reality of the pretrial publicity in this case. And adding in video coverage will only make that problem worse, especially if this results in a hung jury. What happens when Hennepin County attempts to retry this case for one or more of the defendants? The national interest in this case will touch off a trial-watching industry the likes of which we haven’t seen since the OJ Simpson trial twenty-five years ago.

That circus is scheduled to arrive in the Twin Cities in March. Set your DVRs accordingly.

Who cares about George Floyd? I don’t care anything right now except making sure our next president is Donald Trump.

All four will be found not guilty because Saint Floyd died of a fentanyl overdose.

Might as well have the trials in Minnepolistan which is already burned to the ground. I wouldn’t want them to have a trial in the American part of the state and ruin a nice town.

Who cares is right. Floyd is yesterday’s news that the left got the mileage out of. The tantrums will continue. I used to care and be in shock when the cites went barbaric. Now,I care less.

Floyd overdosed. The cops should have left him in the back seat of the patrol car.

No, we didn’t. I am just west of Minneapolistan and I can see America from my porch. When the wind is from the west I can smell it. It smells like freedom. When the wife retires in two years we are leaving occupied territory.

A few weeks ago I drove down Lake Street all the way from my house on the west end to the Target that was destroyed. It looks like a war zone. They were very busy rebuilding the Target. Idiots.

A friend of mine is a section manager at a different store. He said the managers at the looted store were told just to walk out and let it happen. Nothing they could do.
