LOL
Any idea what time the vote occurs?
Me likey!
The cloture vote was around 1PM yesterday so thirty hours from that. So about 7PM tonight.
Thanks
I hope the Dims boycott the vote so it will go faster.
Oh, that’s a good one...
LOL! Yup! Democrats are a paper tiger. Ignore their faux-outrage and media caterwauling and you can accomplish darned near anything.
How is the Chief Justice chosen? Is it its own seat, so the next Chief will be appointed when John Roberts leaves the Court? Or does everyone move up a seat?
roberts was chosen by bush 2, after rehnquist died.
there is no seniority/pecking order...the chief justice is chosen by POTUS at the pleasure of POTUS, when the opening presents itself, I believe.
there is a senate procedure to confirm, as I recall.
...but, I may be all wrong here.
Anyway we can demote Roberts to just Justice or oust, and put Ckarance Thomas in his Place, coup for Trump.
Barring some egregious scandal (Epstein-related?), you can be sure Chief Justice Roberts will hang onto that seat like grim death. Alas, Justice Thomas will have been long retired.
I’m happy to see this confirmation and the dems only have one person to blame.
RBG herself for not stepping down when there was a dem Prez.
I hope the constitutional conservative justices take notice and don’t make the same mistake.
The Chief seat is filled when the existing Chief dies or retires. No justices just move up. Though a sitting justice can be elevated to Chief, as William Rehnquist was, but this requires Senate confirmation.
in 1986 Chief Justice Burger retired, so Reagan nominated sitting justice Rehnquist to fill the seat, and he had to go through hearings and a vote all over again for that position. Had he not been confirmed, he would have retained his seat as associate justice.
In 1968 Chief Justice Warren decided to retire. President Johnson nominated sitting justice Fortas to fill the Chief justice seat. But his nomination was filibustered and he was not confirmed by the Senate. Fortas retained his associate justice seat (until he resigned).
The final vote may begin at 7:36 pm this evening. I anticipate a 9:00 pm swearing in ceremony at the White House.
