The Washington Attorney General’s Office has fired a senior criminal investigator over his alleged behavior at a Tacoma restaurant. A server there said the investigator stiffed her on her tip for wearing a Black Lives Matter (BLM) button.
I imagine the investigator is an at will employee, but I would see a lawyer anyway.
Could be he has legal recourse for a wrongful termination.
There is no law saying you have to tip a waiter. If you tell them why you are actually doing them a favor.
Staying there to be served was a mistake.
Upon seeing the BLM button when server was taking order, he should have gotten up and said “I’ve changed my mind”, and then gotten up to leave. If asked “why” he should have only said “I won’t answer that”.
Staying to eat there is consent. Arguing with server over the button or even mentioning it in any way was foolish.
Another thought here is that this investigator must be a regular. The waiter knows who he is and what his job is.
If this was my restaurant, I would have to fire this waiter because he sued one of my best customers.
It’s not good for business.
