The TDS-unhinged Commission on Presidential Debates figured out a way to get their dementia patient out of the debates - Change the rules in the middle of the campaign stream and not bother consulting the President.

The Commission should be abolished.

Can't say I blame Trump. A virtual debate would allow Biden to just read teleprompters. No one would know what is on the other side of the camera.

He wants a real debate so they can’t prop Biden up and remain unseen while doing it.

The Debate Commission is just another Deep State lackey group. I guarantee this was planned right after the first debate, and had to be announced today especially after Pence kicked Harris’s fanny all over the place last night. They knew full well that Trump probably would refuse to debate in this format so now the media has their narrative for today. They don’t have to talk about last night’s massacre. Had Harris done well last night the in person debate would still be taking place. These Deep Staters are so full of crap!

If the terms of the “Virtual Debate” were announced without consulting the Trump team then I think this is the only appropriate response. Make it clear that this is a contest between a fearless leader willing to take risks and a pathetic old codger hiding from pathogens in his basement.

I would encourage President Trump to book a hall for that date and get tested beforehand. Invite Ol’ Joe. If Biden doesn’t make it Trump can debate a TV monitor showing some of Sleepy Joe’s greatest recorded moments.

Good for the President!

A virtual debate becomes nothing more than an infomercial for Biden.

That is, after they give him the TelePrompter (off camera of course), the questions in advance (which they did in the last debate), all the opportunity to address his talking points.

Then, cut-off the President’s mike, refuse to show his screen, allow him to sit there and do nothing while Biden spreads all kinds of lies and slander.

A virtual debate is totally meaningless.

The virtual debate gives the media too much power to cut Trump’s microphone. If in the same room, Trump could vocally protest and likely would be caught on moderator’s or Bidens mic.
If Trump does decide to do the debate virtually he needs to livestream his end to avoid being silenced.

Unbelievable that the CPD wouldn’t at least have first asked Trump if he’d agree before announcing their “decision”. That in and of itself smells to high heaven.

To me, this is a “how do we deal with Trump constantly interrupting Biden” play that they’ll position as being in response to the risk from COVID.

If Biden and Trump are in the same room, there’s no way for them to control Trump. Even muting his mike. But if it’s virtual, they can simply turn off the video of Trump completely and we wouldn’t even know if he’s trying to respond..

This also smells of “holy crap, Pence kicked Harris’s a$$ so let’s change the subject - QUICK!”..

Trumps political instincts are good, and he knows what they are capable of.

There are so many ways to cheat in a virtual debate. This would not be a real debate at all.

With the unilateral debate format decisions, expect the town hall to occur with Biden and his sidekick CPD modulator. The result: a 90 minute Biden infomercial free of charge to the Biden campaign.

The commission is pissed at him for the last debate. They think Trump needs the debate more than the Commission needs Trump.

The format of the “debates” suck. They have for years. There is nothing “fair” about them. There is nothing “impartial” about them.

Trump should simply keep going to the people, and leave the press out of it until Biden has a press conference. Clearly the media is biased, why deal with them.

Send them postcards.

This comes right after Pence trounced Kamala in last night’s debate giving the momentum to Trump/Pence. Trump always does great in townhalls so no way is Biden going to put himself in a situation where he has to think on his feet. Trump should have his own townhall with Hannity or Maria at the same time. Would Fox go along?

The president should call out Joe Biden on Twitter and challenge him to a debate without a moderator. You know, the same way that Biden calls out Trump and asks him to meet him behind the gym... “Biden, just you and me - mano y mano.” We can bring up any topic we like. You can stand 12 feet away from me, even though I now have the antibodies and cannot spread the disease! What ‘ya say?”

President Trump could easily win the kind of debate that Democrats are wanting with arguments that briefly counter each of the Democrat talking points followed by arguments showing what President Trump will do including a detail or two about each of the President’s plans.

Present good plans for the economy and jobs! Present good plans for freedoms!

Arguments about the epidemic should be avoided except for brief, positive statements about planned remedies (masks, etc., are too narrow interest). Dictators can force citizens to shut down economic activities, but we American people can learn and improve our own procedures and habits before the next epidemic and do it better than nations with dictatorships. We don’t need to damage our economy to unnecessary extents or give up more freedoms than necessary to deal with a disease.

Arguments about abortion (judge appointments) should be avoided (too narrow interest when compared to the majority of voters) in favor of arguments in favor of American freedoms. Don’t spend much time on issues that divide Republicans. We need to win the election!

I suspect most of the people here are grossly misreading Trump’s intention.

I’m guessng he is not backing out of a debate at all, but is instead rejecting a last minute proposed change to the debate format to a virtual one.

I wonder if the debate commission has the right to make this change without Trump’s agreement. I suspect not.

Hold them to the originally agreed upon terms of the debate, in person not virtual.

Why SHOULD the President participate in a debate with the deck stacked in Biden’s favor?

I mean-what a sham. Do they think we are ALL ignorant?

Good. It’s a no brainer. If he agrees to a virtual debate he’s basically endorsing mail in ballots.
