In what part of Louisville has the rioting been taking place? [vanity]

Is Churchill Downs anywhere near the riot zone(s), for those thinking of sightseeing in Kentucky if covid conditions improve by next spring?

Churchill Downs would be a great BLM target and I know it is not in nice part of town. Made of a lot of wood too.

My understanding is that’s in the Bardstown area, well away from the track. Bardstown is a street of bars, restaurants and such.

I’m a dispatcher for taxi fleets across the US. Louisville is one of my cities.

Our restricted area, until further notice, is as follows:

The westernmost boundary is interstate 264, which goes north and south in Louisville. The southern boundary is Broadway. The eastern boundary is I-65, the northern boundary is the Ohio River. Jefferson Square is where most of the action is, and it’s smack dab in the middle of that map, on S.6th street, south of the river by a few blocks.

Hope that helps.

I believe they try to stage a protest at Churchill Downs with fists in the air but they were deterred by an armed contingency.

I noticed Bardstown/Midtown on TV in some of the early rioting but I believe most of the action was by City Hall and the shooting of police may have been near Broadway. In other words, it was in several areas. More inner city than Midtown.

You mean Louisville has a neighborhood called Bardstown? Because KY also has *this* Bardstown...

Name some landmarks in Louisville's Bardstown so I can plot them on Google Maps.

Churchill Downs is not near downtown. It is located in an area with convention and fairgrounds complexes.

Was this on Derby Day or during last week's rioting?

If you’re thinking horses in Kentucky, next spring you would have a much better experience at Keeneland which is in Lexington. They have racing in April.

Churchill was well protected during the Derby on September 5th....they are currently running their Fall meet and things seem to be alright....gotta believe the Guard is protecting it.

FWIW. I drove back home to GA after visiting my newborn granddaughter last week. Drove through downtown Louisville via the interstate with no problems. I was hoping that would be the case, but with protestors blocking interstates in other cities, I was glad.

Thank you! I am always amazed at the resources that make up Free Republic.

So are Uber and Lyft also “red-lining” the area?

Curious if this affects the Urban Bourbon Trail area in Louisville. Was there last September and had a great time visiting the downtown distilleries and restaurants. Wanted to go back again this fall but thinking of Lexington/Frankfort bourbon trail areas instead.

A member of the National Guard told me last night “you have to get this guy out of here because there is conflict with another individual. And Uber and Lyft are not in business here right now.”

The biggest problem is, that even if you live outside the restricted area, the big hotels, entertainment venues, etc are IN the restricted areas. Meaning, a driver can get in there from outside, but no guarantee he’ll get out - in one piece.

Just a few days ago, I had a driver in an accident down there. An hour later, I got a call from the tow company that they were unable to retrieve the vehicle due to the taxi being surrounded by rioters.

Hope they are protecting the Louisville Slugger museum/factory in Louisville...it is such a fun stop if you’re visiting Louisville.

Well, that is the road that goes to Bardstown, KY.   It's like Marietta, GA has a Roswell Road because it is the road that goes to Roswell, GA.   Up in Rome, GA there is a road named the Alabama Highway, and guess where that goes?
