Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine called on lawmakers in the Buckeye State this week to pass a series of reforms aimed at blunting the spike in gun-related violence.
The reforms are part of a larger plan called STRONG Ohio that DeWine introduced in October of 2019 in the wake of the Dayton massacre.
Im going to keep saying it. We have to, in Ohio, get tougher on repeat violent offenders, DeWine stated on Tuesday, according to local media.
We have to get tougher on those who are convicted felons who have absolutely no business having a gun. We need to do this. We have pending in the state legislature a bill that would do that and I would urge my friends in the general assembly to take that bill up, he added.
(Among the new regulations)[snip]
Create a new private-sale background check process that will increase the number of background checks conducted in Ohio while also protecting the privacy of law-abiding gun owners;
Create a legal safe harbor for firearms sellers who require private-sale background checks;

Will DeWine be giving up his 24/7 armed Security Detail by the Ohio State Police?

HOw about enforcing the laws already on the books?
More laws for the criminals to disobey are not going to help.

21 Dead in Ohio?
Maybe Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young will do a song about it, like they did for "4 Dead in Ohio."

Solving the problem is very simple. Use a gun in the course of a crime, any crime, you get life in prison, no parole.
Do that and watch the situation get better real fast.
No criminal, no crime.

The leftist call for violence, they will get it!!

The result would be white privilege on steroids due to the fact that blacks are so overly represented by the felon population.

Use a gun in the course of a crime, any crime, you get life in prison, no parole. Careful with that - the Soros DA's are busy redefining self defense as a "crime."
Government doesn't deserve one iota more power than they have already arrogated to themselves. Better that criminals be taught to live in fear, never knowing which of those righteous citizens are carrying and ready to end their criminal careers with one shot.

Like the rest of the globalist deep state RINOs, DeWine wishes to disarm the honest citizens while allowing the thugs to keep theirs. Can’t protect your home from Antifa if you don’t have the means to do so.

I seem to recall something about DeWine wanting to ban
“assault weapons”, whatever he thinks that means....

I'm OK with ten of the twelve
- Create a process in Ohio law, similar to the current probate court process that directs those suffering from severe mental health conditions into court-ordered treatment, to give hospitals and courts a better ability to help those who are legally declared to be a danger to themselves or others due to drug dependency or chronic alcoholism;
- Ensure that citizens have full due process at all probate court hearings;
- Ensure that those legally declared by a judge to be a danger to themselves or others do not have access to firearms;
- Give family members of those who may be a danger to themselves or others because of drug dependency or chronic alcoholism the ability to more easily petition the probate court for court-ordered treatment;
- Mandate that law enforcement agencies and courts enter certain protection orders and arrest warrants for serious crimes into state and federal law enforcement databases to ensure more accurate background check results;
Create a new private-sale background check process that will increase the number of background checks conducted in Ohio while also protecting the privacy of law-abiding gun owners;Create a legal safe harbor for firearms sellers who require private-sale background checks;- Increase penalties for those who sell or provide a firearm to someone legally prohibited from possessing a gun;
- Give judges a range of sentences for felony cases in which a gun was either possessed, brandished, or used;
- Increase the penalty for those who are found with a gun while legally prohibited from possessing a firearm;
- Increase the penalty for selling a gun to a minor;
- Increase penalties for straw purchases and knowingly possessing a straw-purchased gun.

........in football I think they would call De Wine’s latest gun confiscation ideas a “mis direction” play. Meaning, let’s talk about and blame guns in the possession of white males so as to get the conversation changed from talking about our demonstrably horrible Democratic leadership...............

DeWine is a fine example of a McCain/Bush acolyte deep-state stooge. Never let a good crisis go to waste.

Do these mechanisms already exist through a combination of other laws and procedures?
Enforceability? Cost?

The ten I'm OK with pretty much already exist. Enhanced penalties for existing laws, 4 or 5 of the ten are fine, but the real problem is enforcing the existing laws. The four regarding mental health pretty much exist, maybe he's streamlining the process. The last, Ensure that citizens have full due process , if they don't have due process, they should. Basically it seems to me the "call" is just another political exercise in "doing somethint". But I haven't seen the proposal, if it exists, and the multitude of gun laws probably could use some streamlining.

WHEN/IF we pass a FEDERAL law that REQUIRES a MINIMUM of TEN to TWENTY YEARS in prison for committing ANY VIOLENT FELONY with ANY “dangerous weapon”, the FREQUENCY & NUMBER of such crimes will FALL by probably ONE THIRD & go DOWN thereafter.
When Virginia had PROJECT EXILE, the VIOLENT FELONY rate fell SHARPLY.
(The LEFTIST DIMocRATS repealed it, as it was supposedly incarcerating TOO MANY VIOLENT PEOPLE.)

Unfortunately some self defense acts must cop out to a plea due to lack of funds for proper representation.
The better answer would be to have far better Judges.

WRONG ANSWER. - The remedy is LEGAL REPRESENTATION INSURANCE for using a firearm in self-defense.
(I have comprehensive self-defense insurance in all 50 States for 12.90 per month with TEXAS LAW SHIELD.)
Even in BRIGHT BLUE STATES the prosecutors have learned (in some cases, THE HARD WAY) that “messing with” any TLS client is a GAURANTEED LOSER for the prosecution & the LEFTIST anti-gun NITWITS, too .
IF a person cannot afford that insurance, they cannot afford firearms, ammo either.

And for individuals to have insurance for representation.

Interesting. So those without legal insurance is S.O.L. with their U.S. Constitutional rights. Too bad for the struggling single mom, Old granddad, backwoods farmer, etc. Gotcha.
