Pat Buchanan: Are the forever wars really ending?

In Trump’s first term, his commitment to extricate America from the forever wars went unrealized, due in part to the resistance of hawks Trump himself appointed to carry out his foreign policy agenda.

Clearly, , with the cuts in troops in Germany, Iraq and Afghanistan, and the appointments of Ruger and Macgregor, Trump has signaled a new resolve to reconfigure U.S. foreign policy in an “America First” direction, if he wins a second term. Will he follow through?

Since the end of the Cold War, the U.S. has been in an extended argument with itself over America’s role, America’s mission in the world.

George H.W. Bush’s New World Order is ancient history, as are the democracy crusades his son George W. Bush was persuaded to launch.

But what will Trump’s foreign policy legacy be, should he win?

Big fan of Trump’s foreign policy and think its one of his strongest attributes.

He needs to campaign on it more because finally ending these wars and standing up to the Military Industrial Complex is popular.

Biden is just more of the same..

Almost 20 years in Afghanistan...good grief, 20 years! For what? To kill a few cave dwellers? Maybe a terrorist or two or four..but 20 years?

Trump, best president ever.

Most Military officers, State Department officials, and foreign service officials think we need to expand our presence in the region, or Russia will.

So ending the forever is further “proof” that Trump is pro Russia, and that Biden/Harris will move to contain Russia.

When your livelihood depends on the War, Peace is the ultimate treason.

We beat the best Armies on earth and saved Russia in 3 years.

We can’t beat troglodyte knuckle dragging savages in 20? Political correctness + military industrial complex = death

This is a big reason for 43 Alumni for Biden, W will endorse McCain and Romney but not Trump (don’t believe that crap that from the Bush spokesperson that W is retired and can’t endorse - he endorse others), and Jeb wants us to believe he is “unsure” who he is going to vote for. What a joke.

No doubt the special interests want Biden

He will give them a new war or conflict some place and dress it up as humanitarian so the left can swallow it.

I don’t want American servicemen to die needlessly, but I also know that nature abhors a vacuum. I remember during the Clinton administration that he basically ignored the Middle East and tried to pander to the Arabs and Palestinians. Remember he tried to force peace between Israel and the Palestinians. And what did we get for it? The Twin Towers had planes flown into them.

If we fully withdraw from the Middle East does anyone think we will be left alone? We haven’t had a major Islamic terrorist incident since 9/11/01. Either we kill them there or they kill us here.

If there is a way to withdraw all the troops and keep us safe then I would heartily endorse that plan. But if we bring all the troops home will we be safe?

Bush had the chance to kill Osama early on, but the rules of engagement he forced prevented it.

Now I am thinking this was done on purpose, to make sure we stayed.

F*** George W Bush.

If he ended the war in Afghanistan, the election would be over.

If Russia wants to let them. Being in Afghanistan killed the U.S.S.R. If they haven’t learned anything from that, they can repeat their mistakes.

Either we kill them there or they kill us here.

"Fight them there, or fight them here," huh?

Are the forever wars ending?

Do we have a choice?

Just read an article the other day about Iran’s plans to assassinate our ambassador to S. Africa. Iran isn’t deterred much now. Announcing a major pullout will only embolden them and all our other enemies further. imho

Perhaps one way out would be to strengthen our military ASAP until it is ten times more powerful than it has ever been. Then pull out and if any idiot state like Iran decides to kill our ambassadors, etc., we would annihilate them in two hours flat? That might work?

Pretty much.

Anywhere that Islam goes death and destruction follow.

I shudder to think what would happen if Kamala becomes president. Obama wasn’t a good president but even he had enough brain cells not to do anything that would cause another 9/11. Kamala, not so much. She would go from “Defund the Police” to “Defund the Military”

Pat Buchanan is almost a pacifist. I didn’t think Trump would be like him or Ron Paul, but Trump is good on foreign policy.

Sorry isolationists and pacifists, but we’re in trouble if our enemies are willing to fight forever wars and we aren’t willing to fight back. They will outlast us. Evil never gives up.

Or maybe there are new wars like the China War that we need to fight more which nobody really fought before, or there are new ways to fight the old wars than just endlessly sending troops every which way.
