China has changed the way it talks about Taiwan, reflecting rising tensions that could pull the US into a wa

China has raised its pressure on Taiwan, using harsh rhetoric and flexing military muscle around what it sees as a breakaway province.

Taiwan has not interest in rejoining mainland China, and it has its own extensive military capabilities to defend itself.

Increasing tensions across the Taiwan Strait have raised fears that actual fighting could break out, potentially drawing the US into a clash with China.Taiwan's future as an independent democratic state is uncertain. Chinese officials have repeatedly stated the island's importance to what President Xi Jinping has called "the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation" and have made no secret of their intent to absorb what they see as a wayward province.

Tensions across the Taiwan Strait are the highest they have been in decades. A resounding victory by Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen and her Democratic Progressive Party in January made clear that the island nation has no intention of joining the mainland.

Beijing isn't backing down. In May, for the first time in almost a decade, the Chinese government omitted the word "peaceful" before "reunification" in its annual policy priorities report.

In addition, China has increased the size and frequency of its fighter and bomber incursions into what's considered Taiwanese airspace and recently held massive live-fire military drills all around Taiwan. The increased activity and harder rhetoric lead some to believe a clash is coming.

I’m wary that China would love annexing Taiwan and getting President Puppet Biden out of a nice October surprise.

There would be no better time for China to bring the hammer down on both Hong Kong and Taiwan while the US and the rest of the world are tied up with the China virus, as well as the crap going on with the leftists and election.

Matter of time before they claim Guam, Hawaii, Alaska.. and with the right president in charge (for them) a quick “reunification” will follow.

Why should America waste one American life?

Just set up an economic embargo and let the Chinese enonomy implode.

Yeah, Micronesia is Guam, but I’d forgotten about Hawaii.

Agree. Don't let the U.S.A. get entangled in a war using our troops against China. Use an economic stranglehold on China. Use Japan, Koreas, Vietnam and others in region to do blockades. Of course, if China retaliates by attacking U.S.A. territory or our soldiers, then we have no choice but to fight.

ChiComs seized control of the mainland in 1949.

Seventy years later they have yet to invade Taiwan.

The Matsu island chain is within five miles of the mainland and is still controlled by Taiwan, R.O.C.

Can the dragon swim?

As much as I respect Taiwan, its not a war that the US should be involved in.

10-15% of Taiwanese themselves are living long-term in China, for their business and investments. Even though the ROC/Taiwan’s compulsory 2 military years of service was discontinued 5+ years ago, most Taiwanese young men try to avoid the basic 3 month military training that Taiwan still has. For the rich, getting a foreign passport for themselves and their kids is the first responsibility a parent has. Taiwan has very strict gun-control laws and does not allow private firearms.

They could present a more more fierce defense of their de-facto independence, but they do not. I believe most Taiwanese would flee or fold quickly to avoid any financial or personal pain, and China knows they would only have to deal with a very small minority of Taiwan patriots to get control of the place.

Its not the USA’s responsibility to protect such people.

All of this is talk and saber rattling and will continue to be so until China increases it’s fleet of amphibious assault ships. China hasn’t invaded Taiwan because it can’t...
