“That’s a game changer from the original bill,” said a tweet from a top ranking immigration lawyer Greg Siskind. It gives people “most of the benefits of a green card,” said Siskind, who is working with hospital chains to expand the pipeline of foreign nurses and doctors into U.S. hospitals.
Current law says migrants and foreign contract workers become Legal Permanent Residents of the United States once they get green cards and also become eligible to apply for citizenship and voting cards in five years.
Lee’s “Green-Card Lite” process gives foreign workers all those benefits expect a five-year path to citizenship, said Mark Krikorian, the director of the Center for Immigration Studies. Lee’s bill “grants de-facto green cards by other means — a stealth increase in legal immigration,” Krikorian said, even though GOP legislators say they oppose any increase in green cards.
The new legal status allows foreign contract workers “to be able to stay in the country legally, travel abroad, and change jobs while their green card application is pending,” said Leon Fresco, an immigration lawyer who helped craft the 2013 “Gang of Eight” amnesty and cheap-labor bill. Fresco is an ally of Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., who endorsed Lee’s bill on August 5.
The new status “is a huge benefit of this amended bill,” tweeted immigration lawyer Elissa Taub, from Memphis, Tenn.
“This is a pretty fundamental change to the legal immigration system without anybody debating it,” said Krikorian. “It is a de facto increase in [legal] immigration — but presented dishonesty,” he said.

Northwest Salt Lake has a large Tongan population who came to the Mormon “holy land” - the SL valley. They’re so out of place, they walk around barefoot in the snow.
The Mo’s are doing that now with Central Americans. Salt Lake used to have like 3 Mexicans 40 years ago. Now they’re 20% of the population. Missionaries have converted lots of people in Mexico and Central America because of the possibility of getting to come the Promised Land - i.e., housing developments in South Jordan and West Valley City. Somebody’s got to buy that crap!
Lee’s a Mormon. Everything he does is to advance the interests of the church. If you remember that, all his crap makes sense.

Will they be able to go before an immigration judge and plea that their 2 day old child has known nothing but life in the US and they need to be granted citizenship or permanent resident status to care for him/her here?

I’ve advocated for a one-time amnesty “Red Card” entitled “Permanent Guest Worker” for the illegal aliens already here that would allow them to live and work in the U.S. legally, but would not allow any path to citizenship unless they surrendered their Red Card and returned to their home country to apply for permanent residency the correct way.

This open-borders ideology is win-win for globalists like Lee.
Their ideology is not only to replace the irksome, stiff-necked heritage Americans but also to profit from it, garnering donations from the low-wage employers.
He was never a Conservative, he just used some of the right buzz words to appeal to a portion of the Republican base. He positioned himself as a Constitutional scholar but his actions are not informed by the Constitution nor an interest in the American people just by filthy lucre.
