Lincoln proclaimed slavery’s end on September 22nd but the date is ignored like other significant days in September Like the 2nd in 1945 when Japan formally surrendered ending WW2 or September 3rd 1784. When the Paris Treaty was signed thus the world formally recognizing the existence of the United States as a country also wind up forgotten dates

In Texas it was a day for a picnic or neighborhood celebration, or maybe a blues festival. It certainly wasn’t a day for atonement and reflection. It was a day of Jubilee.
