he U.S. on Tuesday carried out its first federal execution in almost two decades, killing by lethal injection a man convicted of murdering an Arkansas family in a 1990s plot to build a whites-only nation in the Pacific Northwest.
The execution of Daniel Lewis Lee, over the objection of the victims relatives and following days of legal wrangling and delays, revived the debate over capital punishment during a time of widespread social unrest.
*** Lee, 47, of Yukon, Oklahoma, professed his innocence just before he was executed at the federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana.
I didnt do it," Lee said. Ive made a lot of mistakes in my life, but Im not a murderer.
His final words were: "Youre killing an innocent man.
*** Critics argued the Trump administration was creating a manufactured urgency for political gain. ***
But Attorney General William Barr said, "Lee finally faced the justice he deserved. The American people have made the considered choice to permit capital punishment for the most egregious federal crimes, and justice was done today in implementing the sentence for Lees horrific offenses.
The execution of Lee, ***, went off after a series of legal volleys that ended when the Supreme Court stepped in early Tuesday in a 5-4 ruling and allowed it to move forward.
***
Kehoe, of Colville, Washington, recruited Lee in 1995 to join his white supremacist organization, known as the Aryan Peoples Republic. Two years later, they were arrested for the killings of gun dealer William Mueller, his wife, Nancy, and her 8-year-old daughter, Sarah Powell, in Tilly, Arkansas, about 75 miles (120 kilometers) northwest of Little Rock.
At their 1999 trial, prosecutors said Kehoe and Lee stole guns and $50,000 in cash from the Muellers as part of their plan to establish a whites-only nation.

This death should be celebrated. Hell, it should have been on Pay Per View.

He's lucky a REAL grandparent didn't get to "entertain" him for four hours.
Justices Breyer, Ginsburg, Sotomayor, and Kagan signed forceful dissents.
Justices Breyer, Ginsburg's law clerks, Sotomayor, and Kagan signed forceful dissents. Fixed it.
Why is an execution horrible to see. Would breathing be hard to see? Death and breathing are parts of the human existence.
The stigma of an execution is a creation of defense attorneys and European wanna be Ameritrash

The reason for the delay is called contemplation of death. He had delayed the execution for years and now was allowed to contemplate his death in his last minutes.
If we started doing public executions there would be an increase in murders as nutcases would want to be on TV and would kill to do so. Anyone wanna bet?
Amen.
It would have been a better contemplation with a Mapp torch and a pair of linesman’s pliers to focus his attention...
How about the stone cold killer Lon Horiuchi? How’d he skate?
COVID death?
Back room justice.
“...law clerks, Sotomayor, and Kagan signed forceful dissents...”
They have to be justices because they are to ignorant to be clerks.
I have no problem with public justice, I merely needed to temper my comment for the Kid-glove, FR snowflakes.
According to “the internet,” there are about 2,700 people on death row in the US.
I hope that Lon’s long life has been a living hell, but I doubt it.
He’s probably living large on a Federal pension.
But someday he has to stand before the Throne of God, and get what he deserves.
I like the way you think.
When are they going to get around to executing the Boston Bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev or the Ft. Hood killer, Nidal Hasan?
What is wrong with the death penalty?
“How about the stone cold killer Lon Horiuchi? Howd he skate?”
He’s probably retired with a nice pension by now. Or, he could be a gun for hire. Either way, he’s still breathing, damn the luck!
