3 States Account for 42 Percent of All COVID-19 Deaths in America. Why?
Foundation for Economic Education ^ | 7/10/2020 | John Miltimore

Few may have noticed that 42 percent of all COVID deaths in the US come from just three states—New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts. These three states account for nearly 56,000 of the nearly 133,000 deaths in the US, even though they represent just 10 percent of the population. If these three states are excluded, the US suddenly finds itself somewhere in between nations such as Luxembourg (176/1M) and Macedonia (166/1M), where some of the better fatality numbers in Europe are found.

Why have New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts suffered so much more than other US states? We don’t yet know the answer to that question, but evidence suggests it could be policy related.

...

Secondly, there is currently a great deal of scrutiny on states such as Florida, Texas, and Arizona, which have seen case numbers increase in recent weeks, a spike that began in mid-June after states reopened their economies. The implication is that these states dropped the ball by reopening too soon.

None of these states, however, has a per capita fatality rate that even approaches New Jersey, Massachusetts, or New York.

...

Considering these numbers, one would not expect to see a governor from New Jersey, New York, or Massachusetts lecture these other states on their handling of the coronavirus. But that’s exactly what Gov. Cuomo did, claiming his state-ordered lockdown “saved lives” and chastening governors who opened their economies.

“I say to them all look at the numbers,” Cuomo said, referring to leaders in the states seeing rises in COVID-19 cases. “You played politics with this virus, and you lost. You told the people of this state, you told the people of this country, the White House, ‘Don’t worry about it. Go about your business.’”

Its all in how you count deaths, died with it or OF it.

Plausible. The CFR also requires accurate counting of cases and it is unlikely that we have counted cases as accurately as Germany and SK. Specifically they contact trace and test those people. In our case, in many states, we mainly test hypochondriacs.

“Some of the permanent effects of this disease are so debilitating that the victims might actually wish they were dead. And the numbers seem to be turning out to be much greater than the death numbers.”

So go ahead and quote the numbers. Waiting.... No one knows.

They faced the early onslaught of it in cooler temps and less uv light. Rates should be lower now across America due to better treatment and precautions.

This regional anomaly extends into eastern Canada, Ontario and Quebec have higher rates of death and cases even when per capita stats are compared with western Canada. BC and Alberta have fared considerably better.

The similarities are higher urban populations and more contact with Europe. You would imagine BC would have the same outcome as WA or OR, but a combination of good luck and perhaps better planning has changed that outcome. The good luck was that BC’s spring school break was later than other Canadian provinces and at a time when the border was being closed down. The better planning was that BC went quickly to regulations preventing workers from going from one senior care home to another, and various other procedures that seem to have worked. There is remarkably little COVID infection in some parts of western Canada.

I was pointing out this hypocrisy several weeks ago when Cuomo started crowing about NYS and criticizing the other states.

He reminds of a psychopath.

I never said anything about washing their hands.. I said large families and a lot of New Yorker’s were obese never said Italians.. Italians have large family get togethers where one family member could be a carrier and spreads it to the rest of the clan...

The hospitalization and death rates are way down, even if the numbers appear to be going up due to increased testing.

We have fallen so far from *15 days to flatten the curve* so the hospitals are not overwhelmed with COVID patients.

We now have effective treatment, if the medical community is *allowed* to use it. Which brings up the point of politicians practicing medicine without a license, if they are making decisions about what drugs to administer to COVID patients.

The dems are desperate for votes.

That's why.

The hell with average Americans and their health and safety. This is power and control we're talking about here. You know, the critical things to dems.

I completely understand the problem but fail to see how NY,NJ, CT and Mass. flattened their curves. What would the death toll have beewithout this so-called flattening process, and wht was it so much worse than anywhere else either here or in the rest of the world?

The graphs show it.

There are many people here, and we tend to follow our leaders whenever they make sense, otherwise there is no point in having leaders.

Cuomo was a good leader in this crisis, except for the nursing homes where he could have shown a new strength, and we watched him daily and tried to do what he said. The curve would have been much steeper, and the city would have been in great mourning instead of being proud of our success, if we had not followed those early recommendations.

We can’t figure out why the southern tier of the country is not following recommendations. Some say the hot weather, some say they think they are immune because they are not in NY or NJ, some say they think they are immune because they live in a beautiful place and not piled on top of one another . . . whatever!

We have lived with disaster and we know it could have been much, much worse, worse than any of the southern states right now.

Cuomo caused the issues in New York. He was more interested in face time on camera than protecting the only truly vulnerable residents of his state. He should spend the rest of his miserable life in jail but of course will skate
