SEATTLE (AP) - Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best says officers will go into the several-block area being occupied by protesters if there are threats to public safety.
Police pulled back from a part of the city’s Capitol Hill neighborhood after recent clashes with people protesting the Minneapolis death of George Floyd near the department’s East Precinct. A festival-like atmosphere has emerged in the area, now called the “Capitol Hill Occupied Protest,” with participants painting a Black Lives Matter mural on the street and planting a community garden.
Best spoke after a business owner near the protest area complained that police didn’t respond when he called 911 to report a break-in and vandalism.
“There is no cop-free zone in the city of Seattle,” Best said told reporters Monday afternoon. “I think that the picture has been painted in many areas that shows the city is under siege. That is not the case.”
John McDermott, the owner of an auto shop, told KIRO-TV he phoned authorities multiple times about the incident Sunday night.
Best said officers have written multiple police reports for crimes reported in that area in the past 48 hours. Dispatchers and officers are coordinating with crime victims or callers to meet police on the edges of the CHOP boundaries, she said, adding officers will go in if there’s an urgent situation.

I posted a Daily caller article yesterday where they interviewed a resident who lived near the “occupied” zone. He stated he had heard screams, and not your standard protest she and screams but screams of bad things happening on a daily basis at night.

Good point, we have not heard much from ELF in years. I doubt that you went away, most likely reincarnated as something could be antifa could be some other group. Some of the ELF and anti-fire tactics seems similar but at this point it is anybody’s guess.

Oh so the police chief is joining the mayor to double down on the denial strategy. In effect he is saying Fox News and other non traditional outlets are lying.

The city within a city, CHOP - it used to be CHAZ. I don’t even remember what CHOP stands for. The agents for CHOP and for the city of Seattle have renegotiated, and now the area has been reduced from six blocks to three.
Why should Alkatraz be a mere tourist attraction? It’s time it was put back to its original use. But let them have it their way. No cops, no screws, no government. Just have a helicopter drop food, drugs and sanitation supplies in, and let them take care of the rest.
Police are dismantling them as fast as they are going up.

That’s why they perhaps SHOULD be defunded. They don’t do anything anyway.

Let me ask: What has a police officer ever done for you? Write a report? Let a burglary/ other crime go unsolved? Give you an expensive ticket?
