Mattis 'angry and appalled’ as he unloads on Trump, says president ‘does not try to unite the American people'

James Mattis, who served as President Trump's first Secretary of Defense, excoriated the president in a statement to The Atlantic published on Wednesday -- urging Americans to "reject and hold accountable those in office who would make a mockery of our Constitution."

Mattis has largely stayed out of the public eye since resigning in December 2018, when he opposed Trump's abrupt troop pullout from Syria. The retired Marine Corps general had said he wanted to give the administration an "opportunity" to govern, rather than criticize the president in the press.

On Wednesday, though, Mattis made clear that Trump's response to the nationwide protests over the in-custody death of George Floyd had spurred him to act.

[As I believe someone here once stated, Trump is from a businessman background, and in business when you make a acquisition, you want to keep things intact as possible. The trouble is, this isn’t business, this is politics.]

In business, the people you retain from a merger don’t generally try to help the competition stick it to you. For one thing, there is such a thing as a P&L statement that measures the performance of each unit. Whereas in politics, performance measurements are a little more amorphous. And every personnel change gets headlines, and potentially affects your poll rating. In the private sector, these changes go completely unnoticed.

it's quite a day when both the current and former Defense Secretary $hit talk the Commander in Chief

Except the current didn't “sh*t talk” the C in C
And two Matthis has already shot off his mouth after he was summarily dismissed by President Trump. Never made the slightest difference to Trump supporters. Trump’s approval amongst Republicans is as high as ever. Matthis is irrelevant.

What difference would it make?

The current defense secretary is a Republican.
He openly opposed Trump’s idea.

If you repeat a lie long enough, and you are a democrat, you hope it will become true. The new mantra of the left is that Trump is a divider. They divide, and they blame Trump so it looks like they have the solution.

“I can’t believe how many high-ranking current officers in the military and former officers in the military turned out to be back stabbing liberal aholes.”

Same here. The top ranks of our military appear to be shot-through with unreliable people with questionable allegiance.

Entirely correct. Donald J. Trump had to endure a river of raw sewage for the entirety of his first term. He now calls for the rule of law. Nobody wannabees like Mattis spout off because they know they can get face time on the fake news media. If he thinks his two cents is worth a plug nickle with Trumpnation, he is sorely mistaken.

Any chance we could trade the lovers of Mao over here for the pro-democracy people of Hong Kong?

I’m amazed how so many DC-Beltway, ostensibly “wise, sober and neutral technocrats and bureaucrats” are willing to trash and attack Trump.

Trump should hold his ground. These rioters need to grow up. The rule of law that preserves liberty is what is best for everyone and it needs to be preserved.

General Mattis is not called “Mad dog,” casually. I think that he is a dedicated marine (note small “m”) but not too long on brain power. He is not a loyal person and, likely, a shitty friend. Phu-cough, Mattis, you were a poor choice for a Secretary of “anything!”

How exactly is Trump supposed to unify us when half the country refuses to acknowledge him as President?

He has been under nonstop attack for four years and the subject of an attempt at an unconstitutional coup to throw him out of office. It's not the Trump supporters dividing the country.

The price to repair the damage done by the rioters will be bore by the middle class through higher prices. But we’ll hear the cost will be worth it (heard something from a progressive like forrests come from ashes or something).

“reject and hold accountable those in office who would make a mockery of our Constitution.”

Okay. I'll bite.
Here is a partial list.
1. Whitmer
2. Murphy
3. Cuomo
4. Wolf
4. Newsom
5. Pritzker
6. Garcetti

Go lecture those m’f*ers about the constitution. If anything, President Trump has obeyed the constitution to the letter.
