I’ve been watching baseball and how they are handling the mask/distancing situation. You can tell some are very careful, but others aren’t doing much of anything differently except not giving high fives. A few of the coaches are very fidgety with their masks, constantly adjusting. Seems those that wear the masks and gaiters on top are having the most success, because the gaiter keeps the mask from slipping down.

“What can we conclude from 1st serosurvey results from NY just made public by Cuomo? “

Interesting. Like this guy. Tough but fair IMO.

Those tweets are 3.5 months old.

New data has some neighborhoods in Bronx at 60%+ seropositive.

There is only one video camera allowed in the courtroom so various sites are linked in to it. I’m viewing it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFnbBqQcKuI and East Idaho News.

Reporter Nate Eaton, at East Idaho News, has been on top of this case from day one. Nate is the one who asked them where the kids are in Hawaii and collaborated with NBC’s Dateline on the story. Reporter Justin Lum, at Fox 10 Phoenix, is the go to guy for the AZ angle. They both deserve awards for their coverage.

Thanks to Judge Eddins for limiting the number of people allowed into the courtroom. However, in a podunk little county near me, it only took the mayor bringing in the virus to immediately infect all of city hall.

We’re much the same reports here about it causing healthcare access in the rural areas.

Yeah, my county is down this week by about 75 active cases. But we still have 10 times more than similar sized nearby counties. I’m not taking this drop as anything to get excited about. Ebb and flow. School starts in a few days and then there’s the Labor Day weekend tourists. With so many kids doing virtual learning, the tourist season isn’t ending anytime soon.

I’ve been having a lot of hair loss lately and chalked it up to diet or aging. Have had to make another twist of the scrunchies.

This virus knows all the tricks.

Computer dummy here but can’t the school get some company to bring back the old dial up internet service?

Did the students pass to the next grade or could they test on to the next grade? It’s a shame many parents can’t be bothered to homeschool.

That’s pocket change to them. With football being a contact sport, well...

Schools started back this week in my county in GA. Lots of pics in the news, little social distancing and few masks.

https://twitter.com/iyanilenicetv/status/

Same county that pic was taken had 91 new cases yesterday. Overall in GA, hospitalized is still high at 3% but holding steady, highest number of deaths yesterday, case testing and new cases down. We know the death rate lags behind case rate, so hoping we will see the rate falling over the next few weeks.

Link not working but fiddled with it and found a picture of a large group of girls at school. Is that the one? That’s just crazy. To think it was taken by a professional photographer. Don’t you know it was, “Tiffany, squeeze in closer. Beth Ann, get cheek to cheek with Lacy.”

Agree with the comment that many will get sick. Hate to think about it but the first death of a student will have parents banging down the superintendent’s door.

Owner didn’t have an airbnb license apparently. This is why we live in the sticks. No close neighbors!

I think dial up still exists here, but parents are too poor to get it. When I was teaching we had a some kids who lived in homes with dirt floors and no indoor toilet. Many only ate at school.

I think that everyone just advanced to the next grade. Any one old enough could just go get a GED test and likely pass it. The school system last year did not do anything to keep lessons going-at least for the high school kids. I assume if the school had done something, the parents who were likely side lined at home would have seen to it that the kids did the work.

There are already reports of positive tests, 2 elementary schools quarantining for 2 weeks, two different counties. What a mess.

Yippee!

Any symptoms still though?

False negatives abound it seems.

https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2020/08/04/FDA-grants-emergency-use-for-heart-pump-in-COVID-19-cases/3581596544996/

Will be a trillion dollar lottery win for big medicine/big pharma if we go herd with this thing.

This is undoubtedly in response to this finding:

https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2020/07/research-reveals-heart-complications-covid-19-patients

“an observational cohort study, involved 100 unselected coronavirus patients identified from the University Hospital Frankfurt COVID-19 Registry from April to June, 57 risk factor-matched patients, and 50 healthy volunteers.

Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging revealed heart involvement in 78 patients and active cardiac inflammation in 60, independent of underlying conditions, disease severity, overall course of illness, and time from diagnosis to CMR.”

It’s the ‘independent of disease severity, course of illness’ part that’s concerning. How many people had CV, mildly, and think they ‘got away with someting’ and will find subsequently they are in the early stages of heart failure? The average age of the affected was only 49 years old. That’s hardly ‘elderly’.

In the ‘longcovid’ discussions there are a LOT of young people (30’s, 40’s) who talk about having swollen feet and ankles at the end of the day. Probably haven’t been worked up for heart issues due to being ‘so young’.
