Quinnipiac poll: Seven in 10 uncomfortable going to restaurants, bars

Even when coronavirus restrictions are lifted, roughly seven out of 10 people in the tri-state area would be uncomfortable going to restaurants or bars and more than eight out of 10 wouldn't be comfortable going to a large sports or entertainment event.

The results from a new Quinnipiac University poll in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey also found that people are split about returning to work outside the home.

Majorities also say it will take at least a few months before their states are safe to lift their stay at home orders and reopen their economies.

Majorities in all three states don't think their states should reopen any time soon. Timeframes for when voters in each of these states think it will be safe to begin to lift their state's stay at home order and reopen the economy are below.

In the next few months or longer:

Connecticut: 59 percent; New York: 58 percent; New Jersey: 55 percent.

Immediately, or in the next few weeks:

Connecticut: 38 percent; New York: 38 percent; New Jersey: 39 percent.

OK, let's keep New York Shut down for another 3 months and see what happens. These people are so stupid they'd elect a Cuomo.

Count me as one of the three and I’m over 70 with an underlying issue. (Having fun)!

This touches on an unknown factor with our having shutdown the country.

When the day comes that an “all clear” message is delivered from governmental authorities, will everyone go streaming back into bars and restaurants and movie theaters and stadiums? Even if these places have been retrofitted to provide for social distancing in these places, will some people still be afraid to go to such places? That could have a big financial impact on the businesses involved. What if they are open for business but few customers show up?

Tanking their states is solely the choice of the Dem Governors.

Not in Florida...they just allowed in-restaurant dining with spaced seating and today it looked to me like every available table in my local fave was full at lunch time. People were having joyful reunions with their favorite servers and managers. And very few masks.

I know everybody calls Floridians crazy, but maybe we’re crazy in the right way.

It will take a year to get over the fear the media has fomented.

Another day, another fake push poll.
Just end the bloody lockdowns and let everyone decide for themselves whether to go out to eat or not.
Barber shops etc had very long lines in Georgia when they were allowed to open again. Some barbers even had people call at their homes before they could go to their shops.

In free states they are doing just that.

I’ve been meeting my friends once a month at Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York for many years now. It’s only about 20 minutes from me. We usually meet for lunch at the buffet, and then play slot machines for a few hours. We were there in early March before the lockdown. I will definitely not be eating any of the Chinese dishes they offer in the buffet when they do finally open up. I’m done with anything Chinese.

Viewed in the not so long run, this is a good development. It shows Americans, as a group, are responsible adults who can make their own decisions without government coercion. IOW, those who fell themselves most at risk are staying in and the others are coming out. Thus self restraint is doing what government restraint is not needed for and the economy will promptly rebound as long as people are freely allowed to make their own decisions.

The problem is THEY want to make everyone else stay home to allay their fears. I Facebook argue with people all the time who call me selfish for going about my business, yet they don’t see their demand that everyone stay home like they are as being selfish.
