Virginia Democratic Gov. Ralph Northams office said Friday that Phase One of reopening the state under federal guidelines could last as long as two years as the state battles the novel Wuhan coronavirus.
I personally think Phase One will be a two year affair, said State Health Commissioner Norman Oliver, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. There are a lot of people working on this, and I hope they prove me wrong, but I dont see it happening in less than two years.
Phase One under federal recommendations feature a limited reopening of some businesses with strict safety restrictions, social distancing requirements remaining in place, continued teleworking encouraged and face masks suggested in public. Nowhere do the guidelines mention reopening schools that will already remain closed for the rest of the academic year.
The Virginia health department tried to clarify Olivers comments on Saturday, saying the health commissioner misspoke when speculating that Phase One of recovery would last 24 months.
Dr. Oliver intended to say that the Commonwealth will likely be dealing with COVID-19 in some form until a vaccine is produced, not that Phase One itself would take two years, a department spokesperson told Newsradio WRVA.

Bingo....I assume they are loving it....I wonder if I could persuade some of the California liberals that moved to Texas to move to Virginia!!!
OMFG this!!!!!! I was seriously thinking of moving to Va (as a very staunch Constitutional Conservative) and I see Va. is swirling down the bowl because of NORVA and COVID. This destroyed Pa. also in which gerrymandering, demographics, stupid voters, urban centers and political shenanigans turn a state “blue” in just a few election cycles.
Another “Health Official” trying to play the “Supreme Leader”.
If he does that, watch the neighboring states see an influx of families with kids.
Extremely irresponsible, who is to say that two years is enough? There may be no vaccine, we need to close schools for ten years, just in case. It will save lives.
The poor people in the red States who make up nine of the ten most needy states on the federal government’s nipple?
I feel bad for the people supplementing them like me. People making salaries that aren’t akin to the 1970s
The Virginia governor, on the day he first closed the schools, said that their schools will be closed for “at least” the rest of this school year.
IMO, he was planning on this from day one.
Just one more thing leading me to believe this event was scripted.
Clear the deck... Start fresh...
Let’s just have no one leave their houses for TWENTY YEARS. The armed forces can deliver each household an allotment of MREs, water, and toilet paper every month.
I think Saddam did something like this, so it’s not a new idea; I can’t believe they haven’t suggested it yet.
Please, oh please.
However, I really want televised coverage when the Virginians grow many pairs and take care of that governor.
Just like the Italians did to Mussolini.
New Civil War on the horizon.
Plenty of of government check people right here on Free Republic. Most of them can be seen explaining how the older folk on Free Republic need to be protected. They can afford to trade their liberty for a little social security errr I mean social distancing.
20 years of let freedom ring and now it is I afwaid!
Between my DIL’s mother who is a teacher and myself who can teach subjects I am well versed in, my grandchidren will get an excellent education without the PC claptrap and gender-bending filth.
Go for it Northam.
I cant WAIT to be the educator of my grandchildren. They are SO gonna outpace everyone else.
Yep. I think the people of VA need to take up arms against the state.
Its harder to practice political indoctrination this way.
Virginians, do it now, open it up, or otherwise suffer under the tyranny of governor Blackface Baby killer.
Your choice.
Choose wisely.
