France's Macron positioning himself as leader of the world
cnn ^ | 4/15/2020 | David A. Andelman

France's 42-year-old president, Emmanuel Macron, who has faced many challenges governing his country, is now positioning himself to take over the mantle of global leadership long reserved to the older leaders of China, Russia or especially the United States. And right now, he has no real challengers.

The vehicle of this leadership campaign is Macron's proposal for a worldwide ceasefire -- a truce everywhere from Afghanistan to Syria, Iraq and Yemen. And he says he's a good part of the way there. There are five permanent members of the UN Security Council (France, China, Russia, Britain and the US) and four of the five are on board, according to Macron. Macron also says he hopes to secure the agreement of the final member, Russia's Vladimir Putin, within hours. UN Secretary General António Guterres had already called for an "immediate, global ceasefire," observing that "the fury of the virus illustrates the folly of war," though with no real buy-in until Macron weighed in.

This is the only picture I can find of this author BUT, as he was born in 1944 and is 75yo, it is probably not current. As for France, he served for seven years as Paris correspondent for CBS News and has been a 'foreign correspondent' for decades. His prior writings have been consistently 'deep blue', leaning left and antagonistic to Trump.

How can a frenchie be leader of the world if he doesn't have a cool hat? Napoleon is ALWAYS in style. Or he can go with a modern DeGaulle kepi. A monarch;s crown like Charlemagne's always has its admirers. Even a simple French Foreign Legion chapeau would do. The last frenchie of any note to not wear a hat was Louis XVI, and he lost his head over it.

Only CNN is brain dead enough to believe that the President of a country with 310 deaths per million from corona virus would be a great world leader.

Does CNN engage in click bait in order to get viewers?

Wouldn’t it be great if some techie could come up with a way for us to view a CNN news report without CNN knowing it happened?

Every so often, somebody predicts that the EU is going to come into its own as a global power. It never does.

Usually the talk is about Germany, but with Merkel nearing the end of her career, the spotlight falls on France.

Macron isn't any more likely to become a world leader than Trudeau is, but for people who put serious time and money into mastering French in the old days, all that investment can't be for nothing.

That's all the world needs! A leader, as in capo or duce or Führer, like l'intellectuellement faible Macron!

Macron le faible! Que le ciel nous aide!
