Three southern California churches who want to remain open amid the coronavirus pandemic filed a lawsuit against Gov. Gavin Newsom and other officials on Monday, arguing that stay-at-home orders violate their First Amendment right to freedom of religion and assembly.
The Center for American Liberty, a conservative non-profit, filed the lawsuit in the federal court for the Central District of California on behalf of three pastors and one parishioner in San Bernardino and Riverside counties, east of Los Angeles. Attorney General Xavier Becerra and officials of San Bernardino and Riverside counties are also named as defendants.
Newsom, a Democrat, and others are accused of "criminalizing church attendance" under overly broad state and local stay-at-home orders instead of allowing houses of worship to remain open if they practice safe social distancing in the same manner as grocery stores and other outlets considered essential services.

Is this an approved drive-in type of service? Here is the God-forsaken State of Connecticut all food service is take out, even beer.
Is the drive thru beer on tap or in a can?
Is a frozen mug considered an open container?
Behold, I stand at the drive thru window and knock.
:) True. Now in TN, we miss In N Out.
cans, bottles, growlers, kegs, and lidded Dixie cups with little teeny straws in all colors, but you have to call first.
I’ll stick with the Book Of Church Order. We are moving and my copy is boxed up, so I’ll have yo get back with you.
I went to a drive-in service on Sunday.
What truly struck me more than anything else was how easily this idea could be used for a church plant with low overhead and a bit of anonymity for visitors.
The corona might just launch a new church movement if the enemies of the cross aren’t careful.
In our area, it would be fine from mid-spring through mid-fall, and if the pastor doesn’t mind being in the cab of a truck unseen, then it could be year round.
I am part of a new church plant here in Glastonbury. It is part of the Southern Baptist movement and started by a couple from San Diego and the Calvary Chapel movement.
He is a young Pastor and uses all the latest technology. Our internet service has been great but miss the physical contact. My sons in Virginia and the other part of eh state tune in so we are going to church together.
I remember way back at Jesus People time, when the media showed those crazy long haired, hippy Christians.
Little did they think they were helping to launch a revival.
Same thing now: virtual outreach and non-standard outreach could go through the roof.
Speaking of long hair, I need a hair cut.
I got a hair cut and beard trim about a month ago.
I looked like a scruffy OG at the time.
Now I look like a respectable retiree who doesn’t shave
Ive been hooked up with two Calvary Chapels. My home church in Corona and my away from home church in Lahaina Maui. Theyve both been operating for about 26 years. They are both exclusively online right now. Its ok, but not the same at all. I miss the fellowship in Corona and the beach services with the turtles in the background on Maui.
Hopefully this wont last much longer.
