On CNN's State of the Union on Sunday, Dr. Fauci made comments that were wildly distorted by the media. “You could logically say that if you had a process that was ongoing and you started mitigation earlier, you could have saved lives," he said. “Obviously, no one is going to deny that. But what goes into those kinds of decisions is complicated. But you’re right. Obviously, if we had, right from the very beginning, shut everything down, it may have been a little bit different. But there was a lot of pushback about shutting things down.”
During the Coronavirus Task Force briefing on Monday, Dr. Fauci sought to clarify those comments, and make it clear that despite the way the media was spinning it, the first time he and Dr. Birx recommended "shutting down" the country to mitigate the spread of the virus Trump listened.

Fauci said what he pretty much had to say, based upon the question asked, which was due to Trump fabulously trolling the media into asking it.
I still have reservations regarding his motives.
House Representative Steve Scalise might disagree with that.

Trump probably brought him into the Oval Office, showed him stacks of messages piled to the ceiling and said “So, Tony, what would you like me to do here?”

He should then stop giving them interviews. He knows, or should know, that the media have been actively seeking to drive a wedge between him and Trump since day one. I suspect that Fauci enjoys all the attention and really isn’t very supportive of Trump in all this, after all, he was and probably still is, a Clinton supporter.
He should have stuck to basketball.
If he was the AD for some D-III school somewhere I’d have no problem with him.

I loved it when they tried to get Pence to break with Trump and not support what was being said. He dutifully kicked back into his 30 Days to Slow the Spread brochure pitch and forced the media to sit for it for the 4,999th. time.

What really is upsetting is when he is attempting to answer a question or prove a point they keep incessantly bombarding him with other questions and comments. Ignorant, to say the least.
