Last Thursday, the scientific mastermind behind the economic carnage and spirit-crushing isolation now constituting the two main pillars of America's ingenious new public health strategy delivered some bad news. Dr. Fauci says we'll have to keep living like this until the virus is eradicated.
Even if "virus" isn't his nickname for the American people, following his advice still means a long, grueling haul. The economic shutdown and social confinement oppressing us have to continue for at least the minimum estimated 18 months it will take to develop a vaccine for COVID-19. Longer, since the stipulation that our rights don't get restored until new infections cease means we have to manufacture and distribute enough to inoculate 60% of the population. All told, we're talking God only knows how many years.
No remotely similar brutal experiment in tough love has ever been tried. So it's anyone's guess how bad things will get. The Great Depression saw just three consecutive years averaging around a 9% decline in GDP. Unemployment peaked at 25%. Much worse is already projected in just the coming months.
But even if our hardship snowballs into a catastrophe rivaling the crash of '29, we're at least likely to avoid its infamous breadlines. Impoverished people lining up for food would wreak havoc on Dr. Fauci's social distancing scheme. So he's likely to insist that any rations be delivered. The upside to house arrest during an economic meltdown is not having to wear the malodorous rags to which your clothes will be reduced in public.

Trump needs a 2nd Fauci on the stage. Then after a week replace Fauci. Or just reassign him now.

I have no love for lock down orders that defy the 1st Amendment clause of peaceable assembly without some present danger to the assembly, yet reasonable isolation, to reduce the infection rate, if not snuff it out entirely, is a reasonable response when no cure is available.

Just yesterday Fauci said it is likely Schools will open on schedule in Sept. Given this creeps single minded drive to eradicate our society/economy I take this statement as a confirmation this BS is all but over.
WE need at least a couple of other Administration experts in this area to speak along with Fauci and Birx both of whom are connected strongly to the liberals and past Administrations.
Fauci is obviously working in the service of an agenda that's destructive to the country and particularly to Trump.
His next job needs to be at Jiffy Lube, where he might earn an honest living.
Birx is too, except she's kinda cute and more insidious than Fauci.
Fire Fauci and give Birx a chance to come clean and give a straight answer to the Hydroxychloroquine issue. If not, fire her too.

Hold on just a bit — I read a story here on FR that stated it was Ezekiel Emanuel who said the lockdown had to continue for 12-18 months until a vaccine was developed.
Emanuel’s credentials as an authoritarian leftist nut are pretty solid. Fauci I’m still reserving judgment about, although nothing I’ve seen has shown me he has any leadership skills.
This story takes Fauci completely out of context and misses the fact that there is an entire task force that is made up of a large number of people who are making recommendations to the president.

No one gave people $ and there was no such thing as unemployment during the depression.
This will paly out differently and I am quite sure the president will call an end to this nonsense before very long.
It is only necessary the most endangered people stay isolated. So, for their own good they should do so and let the rest of the country go back to work using common sense procedures to deal with this make believe Armageddon Chinese Virus.
Reasonable isolation would be isolation of vulnerable populations, not of the entire population. What we are doing is not reasonable. The number of cases is meaningless; it is the number of hospitalizations and deaths that is important. We cannot stop the spread of the virus but we can try to keep it away from those who are most vulnerable.
What matters is the enemedia holds the lib Clinton loving Fauci as the latest of their “infallible” dieties in this area.

Yesterday a free food delivery truck arrived in town. Cars were lined up on the shoulder of the main road for at least a half of a mile, and another quarter mile down the next road to the distribution truck.
They ran out of food in an hour.

Yes. Dr ‘Zeke’ (architect of Obamacare who advocates for Americans over 75 not to be given medical care as they no longer contribute to The State) did say that and it’s on tape. I saw it yesterday.
On a side note, Dr Fauci has not seen a patient since he Finished his medical studies. He is a RESEARCHER. Attained visibility during the AIDS crisis when he was trying to find a vaccine. He and his team never found a vaccine. Yet, he’s (AND coincidentally Dr Zeke) advocating the country stay locked down until there is a vaccine for COVID19. That WOULD completely destroy us. And a popular meme on Facebook has Fauci standing there in a t-shirt that says ‘Keep Calm and Believe Me not Him’. He is being pushed by all the Leftists I Know on Facebook.
The messenger is highly compromised. He’s inconsistent and engages in double-talk. In 2014 the mini-doc said that if he had an effective treatment that had not been fully evaluated, he’d use it.
Fast forward a few years, and now HCQ just cannot be used until a group of dying patriots decide to volunteer to be the macabre control group in his grisly test to prove definitively in the highest traditions of the scientific method that HCQ combined with Zinc and an appropriate antibiotic is an effective treatment for the Chinese bioweapon.
He’s got to go. Not a wartime consigliere.
