Here's How Walmart's Wuhan Coronavirus Policy Change Will Impact You

Retail giant Walmart on Friday announced changes to its retail stores across the country. The changes are geared to protect staff and customers from the Wuhan coronavirus.

"While many of our customers have been following the advice of the medical community regarding social distancing and safety, we have been concerned to still see some behaviors in our stores that put undue risk on our people," Dacona Smith, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, said in a post on the company's website. "We want to encourage customers to bring the fewest number of people per family necessary to shop, allow for space with other customers while shopping, and practice social distancing while waiting in lines. We’re also seeing states and municipalities set varying policies regarding crowd control – which has created some confusion regarding shopping."

Beginning Saturday, the number of customers will be limited to five customers per 1,000 square feet, which is about 20 percent of a store's capacity. How many people will be allowed in each store will vary depending on the individual store's size.

Each store will only have one entry and one exit. At that entrance, employees will count the number of people going into the store to make sure the 20 percent capacity rule is followed. Additional customers will be allowed in as others leave the building, following a one-in, one-out pattern.

The company is also implementing a one-way movement throughout each store. There will be floor markers and employees directing customers to make sure the pattern is followed.

Walmart has taken other precautions, like installing sneeze guards at registers, closing stores overnight to conduct deep cleaning and restocking shelves. The company has also begun taking employees' temperatures to monitor for potential cases of the Wuhan coronavirus. Walmart is also making gloves and masks available to employees who wish to wear them.

Our Walmart doesn't have to worry about me, because our son who does our shopping for us does not let me go with him as I am handicapped and he does not want to drag me through the store.

Not going to Walmart today, it’s the start of the new policy. Passed by the store and the line to get in was quite long. My girl friend can wait another day for her Organic food.

Where was this policy in 2010, when on February 12, 2010, the CDC released updated estimate figures for swine flu, reporting that, in total, 57 million Americans had been sickened, 257,000 had been hospitalised and 11,690 people had died (including 1,180 children) due to swine flu from April through to mid-January.

Oh. I forgot OBiden was in office then and that was different.

My worry is that other stores are going to follow suit making this situation even worse. My Albertson’s is pretty much back to normal with normal crowds. They start this nonsense and I’m afraid they will worsen the ability to get what is needed.

The line in front of my local WM will be all the way across the parking lot and likely wind snake like for at least 300 yards.

Pass.

I’ll go to the over 60 shopping period/day, Tuedsays 6:00am to 7:00am. I’ll get there at 5:30am with my mask and hand cleaner. Maybe it’s 65 or older, can’t remember. Anyway, younger people can’t shop then.

I feel sorry for these places where people seem to lack more than one place to buy groceries.

I can name 20 off the top of my head within a 15 minute drive of my house. That’s not counting Target, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and Costco

Wal-Mart has just lost a customer. I’m not standing around outside to wait my turn. There are other stores.

Each store will only have one entry and one exit.

Hmmm... wonder how the Fire Marshal will react to that?

We live in a rural area, we have 3 options for grocery, one is Walmart which I will now not use,and is the only option for household goods. The other options are 30 miles away.

My guess is that part of the reason for this policy at Walmart & Target is that they are general merchandise stores with clothes, toys, electronics, etc. and entire families were streaming in with the kids in tow for entertainment.

Around here (Central FL) I have seen none of that in Publix, HD, Lowes, etc. I also saw where Costco was onlying allowing 2 people per membership card, so that kinda validates my assumption.

we just went to Walmart today and yes, they counted heads going in and out but everything was available to purchase.
If they decide what is necessary for me, i will not shop there, and i spend alot of $$ there monthly because it is close to my house.
But I can change it up if they decide to be intrusive.

So Walmart will have people standing in line before allowing them into the store? How Soviet of them.
