Trump says new recommendations on face masks are coming

President Donald Trump said Thursday his administration will soon release nationwide recommendations on wearing face masks after initially telling Americans they weren't necessary to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

But a top health adviser on his team strongly cautioned that masks should not lull Americans into a false sense of security that would lead them to abandon social distancing guidelines.

Speaking at a White House task force briefing, Trump said the new guidance would stop short of requiring all Americans to wear face coverings.

"I don't think they'll be mandatory because some people don't want to do that," he said, adding that Americans who do want to wear face coverings can "decide for themselves."

You can buy a mask on eBay or make your own. However there is a real risk of contamination with taking masks on and off. So I am not going to wear one and I am not in a hotspot anyway.

So don’t take your mask off, until you get home.

Exactly. All the N95 masks are being sent to hospitals where nurses and Doctors are inches from patients.

Those would also come in handy if you ever have to make an emergency pit stop when you're eating at a Taco Bell (as long as the cartridge was still effectively doing its job).

There’s a lot we don’t know, the coronavirus is probably less transmissible in a tropical climate.

I do not recall Trump saying not to wear masks in the past. But I do recall CNN Wire pushing the idea that masks make no difference.

CNN Sucks. Boy a Trump rally would feel good right now

But I firmly believe, everyone needs to be required to wear a facemask.

Because the government should be required to protect citizens by taking liberty away from others as opposed to citizens being the ones that are primarily responsibility for their own protection.

How much longer before there will be fines or imprisonment for being out in public without a facemask?

Some of what the medical “experts” say doesn’t match up with my experience. Birx said wearing masks may cause people to not social distance as much. That’s not what I see. People tend to distance more. Who sees someone wearing mask and thinks I don’t need to keep my distance from that person? Me wearing a mask isn’t going to change my gut reaction about that.

They must have an insultingly low opinion of people’s intelligence, too. Birx said wearing masks might cause people to think they don’t need to wash their hands. It sounds like they’re delaying new guidance on masks until they craft something that makes it crystal clear that a mask isn’t a substitute for the other measures. Okay. Fine. Get to it.

I am ok with fines, for being in public without a mask. Just fines.

100% aok with me.

This is a (big) medical issue at the moment.

I don’t understand, how in the world anyone can be opposed.

It is temporary.

If it was not, I would be 100% opposed, but it’s not.

That is true, I believe.

My point was however, that Vietnam has basically adopted very strict guidelines, at the moment.

TONs of places are now closed. Coffee shops (although take out is ok). Are ALL closed. Little road-side places are closed. Lots, and lots of places are closed.

Groceries, and food stops like 7-11 in the States and elsewhere, are open.

Everyone is required to wear a facemask. Anytime they are in public.

Everyone.

There are others, but those are the big ones.

I have been getting somewhat suspicious glances in public, which is entirely new for me here.

However, I firmly believe once there is a cure for this, this place will rebound IMMEDIATELY.

Just waiting.
