Trump Announces CDC's Social Distancing Guidelines Have Been Extended

At a coronavirus task force briefing on Sunday, President Trump announced the social distancing guidelines aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus will be extended to April 30th.

"We will be extending our guidelines to April 30th to slow the spread," Trump said Sunday in the Rose Garden.

The extension was announced after the president said the peak death rate in the United States for the coronavirus is expected to hit in two weeks, according to models of the virus.

"Nothing would be worse than declaring victory before the victory is won," Trump said. "That would be the greatest loss of all. Therefore, the next two weeks and during this period, it's very important that everyone strongly follow the guidelines."

President Trump encouraged Americans to "strongly follow the guidelines" on social distancing, adding, "The better you do, the faster this whole nightmare will end."

Trump had previously stated a goal of opening the country up by Easter, April 12th. When asked about the Easter timeline by a reporter on Sunday, Trump said the goal was "just an aspiration," but one that had to be extended based on the incoming data.

The president said the administration's latest plans a summary of the taskforce's findings will be announced on Tuesday.

“We will be extending our guidelines to April 30 to slow the spread. On Tuesday, we will be finalizing these plans and providing a summary of our findings."

"We can expect that by June 1 we will be well on our way to recovery." pic.twitter.com/5wJgD6v90w— Breaking911 (@Breaking911) March 29, 2020

Limitations are not denying people “Life”....this is temporary....and I’d be glad to stay put in the comfort of my home for not only my life but the life of others....because ‘Life’ matters.

My spin studio and hair dresser will be toast. How can they pay rent and insurance on businesses with zero customers?

How temporary is it? Two weeks?

Life does matter, except when it is an unborn child which many states, some of which have have banned gun sales, continue to allow to be terminated.

Yes, I want to live so that we can emerge from this into a totalitarian,
Socialist nation. Or would I. Thomas Paine would not have and I am pretty sure they dealt with some nasty diseases in their day.

Can I just choose the earth explode from its core? Couldn’t dislike either choice for president more than I do.

Trump is basically in a box. If he allows people to go back to their lives and Fauci is right, the secondary pandemic that follows guarantees he won’t be re-elected. Plus, having to shut the economy down for a second time will certainly destroy what economy that’s left and plunge this country into a depression. Couple that with the amount of paper owned by China, we best start taking lessons in Mandarin.

If he stays the course and we emerge in a couple of more weeks on the back side of the curve, he then has the option to selectively loosen controls. Then it’s up to Governors to relax the “shelter in place” restrictions. If the Cuomo’s, Whitmer’s, and Newsome’s of this country don’t, then it’s on them.

I trust this President. He has great instincts and I honestly believe he cares less about re-election than protecting the American people at this time.

One of the hallmarks of this nation has been our resilience and ability to endure. I’m sure he has access to information we don’t and is making what he believes is the best decision for us all.

our economy will be gone.

Just to take one example: Contractors at all levels are crazy-busy right now--home and commercial. People don't commission that kind of work that unless they're in a hurry to do stuff, and aren't petrified of getting sick.

That's the driver. People aren't unduly scared of getting sick. They won't tolerate doing nothing, and that energy is not something government can stop.

I never believe that it is as good as they say, and never believe that it is as bad as they say...so it will probably be in the middle.

Farmers are getting the fields ready for planting. The cattle and chickens won’t evaporate. :)

But yes. Gardening is always a good idea, as long as one doesn’t have too many pets defecating in gardens (common problem in many suburbs and small towns now, mainly cats).

Yep!.....People squawking somehow think this nation is above hard times regardless how it happens. I’m so grateful my parents were frugal and knew how to make a dollar stretch so we could have the ‘extra’s’ sufficinet enough to never know we were poor growing up.

We live in a nation of great abundance....nobody should be grumbling. We have medication, hospitals and a host of other wonderful things which make life better for us all.....staying in out homes is not too much to ask while a beast runs around targeting everyone. Businesses can rebuild and will....Americans will make sure there’s a will and a way. But there will also be those who will throw in the towel....and even then life will go on.

Yep, and while I’m not particularly happy about this I’m actually quite surprised at how many conservative people, many of whom talk about being ready for anything, to fight a war, defend their families, etc are losing their shit over being asked to stay in unless necessary for several weeks

I’ve taken a pretty big income hit but that’s life, I’ll make it up in the other side and in the meantime we’ll be more careful

This is all the voters will remember on election day and that is how well Trump responded to this crisis. Nothing else will matter on election day, so he has to get this right. Easy to say and harder to do.

The government can stop anything they want to stop.

If they get pissed off enough they’ll send in the cops, and if that doesn’t work, the troops. Are the contractors going to take them on with nail guns?

I’m not saying we’re at that point yet, but we’re damn well on the road in that direction.

If someone told you two months ago that what is happening today would be happening would you have believed it? We’ll see what the next two months bring.

I can’t think of a better leader to walk through this mine field. If he relaxes it too soon he will be seen as putting the economy, money and his reelection ahead of dying people. The dems will say that kind of crap no matter what he does ... but Trump has to make sure that ordinary people in the battleground states don’t think and say things like that.

If Trump keeps doing what he’s doing and putting the country ahead of himself etc like he has been doing for the last three years then the election should take care of itself.
