After being accused of punching a man repeatedly in the head, leading to his death, a Syracuse man has been released on an appearance ticket due to the state's new bail reform law.
On December 4, Syracuse Police were called to 337 1/2 Shonnard St for a call about a fight. Officers on the scene spoke to Robert Pickett, 49, who police say denied knowing anything about a fight and didn't appear to be injured. Police say that with nothing to "support the initial fight call" they cleared the scene.
The next day, after complaining of head pain and then becoming unresponsive, Pickett's girlfriend called an ambulance. Police say University Hospital then contacted them telling them Pickett wouldn't survive his injuries. By December 9, Robert Pickett was dead.
More than two months later on February 19, the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office ruled his death a homicide, citing blunt head trauma as his cause of death.

Gone with the wind.
Insane.
It’s one thing to release someone for a non-violent crime: writing a bad check, possession of a small amount of marijuana, etc. It makes NO sense to release someone for a violent crime. How many other innocent people have to die before this nonsense stops??
Hope the dead man has male family members to take care of business!

New York is showing the nation they are tough on crime
