I loved Jonathan Winters in that movie. John Astin (The Adams Family star) was also in it.

Robert MacNeil was in Dallas, too. Think of all the journalists who owed their careers to being in Dallas on that day.

Oddly, both Jim Lehrer and his future PBS partner Robert MacNeil were both in the Dallas motorcade covering the JFK assassination. There'a picture of MacNeil peering around the Grassy Knoll as eyewitnesses rushed the scene and here's a photo of Lehrer at the Dallas police station.

A lot of careers got a boost that day, including a CBS News regional correspondent named Dan Rather.

On November 22, 1963, MacNeil was covering President John F. Kennedy’s visit to Dallas for NBC News. After shots rang out in Dealey Plaza, MacNeil, who was with the presidential motorcade, followed crowds running onto the Grassy Knoll (he appears in a photo taken just moments after the assassination). He then headed towards the nearest building and encountered a man leaving the Texas School Book Depository. He asked the man where the nearest telephone was and the man pointed and went on his way. MacNeil later learned the man he encountered at about 12:33 pm. CST might have been Lee Harvey Oswald. This conclusion was made by historian William Manchester in his book The Death of a President (1967), who believed that Oswald, recounting the day’s events to the Dallas Police, mistook MacNeil as a Secret Service agent because of his suit, blond crew cut, and press badge (which Oswald apparently mistook for government identification).

“Do you think it might be possible to have a FReeper investigation to find the source for who provides and how the daily democrat word or phrase talking point is promulgated?

It would seem there is a conspiracy to control the agreeable media and promulgate daily propaganda that is not in America’s best interest. The process is in fact cancerous bias

Who is it? Where is their secret dungeon?”

I don’t think FReepers have the tools to do it and probably not enough of us to dedicate ourselves to such a project.

Are you sure it hasn’t already been done by someone else?

Worth a re-post:

This needs to be exposed.

The Progressives didn’t emerge fully formed from Jim Lehrer’s head. Woodrow Wilson was the spearhead of a pre-existing movement. The Federalist Papers and John Thelwall even wrote about a train of thought favoring the end of private property. Coleridge and Southey in their adolescence planned to moved to America and establish a “pantisocracy” where nobody had any private property. They later became staunch conservatives. The Communist Manifesto itself was first printed in 1849.

Lehrer certainly did so, if what you claim is true (it’s not), then Lehrer must not have leaned left (he did).

John Astin was always good on screen.

He showed up on McMillan And Wife and Brisco County Jr.

I liked Lehrer. Despite his left leanings, he always conducted himself with class and professionalism.

RIP

I agree. May he RIP.

I cannot believe he is/was 85! How time flies...

McNeil-Lehrer was usually very good at having opposing and well-articulated viewpoints on current issues; something sorely lacking these days.

VERY sorely lacking these days, unfortunately.

Remember it well.
P. Jennings was half-heartedly trying to stop Brinkley from going too far but that was funny!

Brinkley interviewed Clinton days later and gave a 10 second apology that neither he nor Clinton thought was sincere! lol

Yeah, and if you were to track down the source, of what use would it be?

I’m going with the assumption that most of it originates with Soros and his lieutenants. They have quite an army of minions and plenty of money to spread around.
