GOOD NEWS FROM MEXICO

More evidence that President Trump’s immigration policies are having great effects, from the Wall Street Journal: “Mexican Forces Clash With Migrants at Border With Guatemala.”

Mexican security forces used plastic shields to push back hundreds of Central American migrants who tried to force their way across a border bridge from Guatemala into Mexico on Saturday.

Lines of National Guard officers jostled with migrants, some of whom threw bottles and wielded sticks as they tried to push their way into Mexico. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has vowed to stop migrants from entering the country illegally as they try to reach the U.S.

The migrants are part of a group of some 1,500 people, mostly from Honduras, who gathered on the Guatemalan side of the Mexican border Friday.

This is another attempt to form a caravan to invade the United States, organized by “leftist Honduran activist[s].” (Parenthetically, I still would like to know who is paying for this “activism.”) But this time, it isn’t working. Why?

Mexico is determined to stop a replay of similar incidents in 2018 and 2019, when thousands of migrants entered the country in caravans and headed for the U.S. border. The regional migration crisis drew the ire of President Trump.

It all fun and games as long as its just plastic shields. But eventually both sides will up their game.

I hope Mexico is serious this time. A couple of years ago the police and military just waved them on.

I would guess that a lot 9f what happens depends on what the cartels view as good for themselves, too.

Oh, the irony!

Obrador will show them the door!

The wall is going up in the high traffic zones. The people in caravans from now on will need to be highly motivated to cross where it’s not so easy.

So will Mexico put political pressure on the Central American governments who are keeping their people in abject poverty and forcing them to go north just to stay alive?

Mexico CAN get tough when they have to and the pressure from Trump is making the Mexican government STEP UP and do some of the dirty work themselves. After all it IS their border, not ours.

The ripple effect, I think, will continue southward and meet the South American cartels...and governments, which are probably one and the same.

This will last during Trump's entire presidency. THEN, we'll see who becomes our next POTUS.

I think the Cartels are behind keeping the migrants out. They don’t want us to pay attention to the border as it hurts the drug running.

Mexico,like all sovereign nations,has the right to defend her borders.It’s good to hear that they’re doing so...for their benefit and ours.

This is the first Mexican president who has been willing to station Mexican troops for this purpose. That is a huge help!

“the world has learned that President Trump doesn’t bluff!”...

“Trumportunities.”

It is the idea that, whether by accident or design, Trump creates chances to solve long-running international problems that a conventional leader would not.

His bellicose isolationist agenda, for instance, might already be forcing Europe to confront its geopolitical weakness;

China, its need for a lasting economic settlement with the U.S.;

Countries throughout the Middle East, the limits of their power.

The president’s erratic behavior might be doing something else as well, something even more fundamental. Through a combination of instinct, temperament, and capriciousness, Trump may be reminding the world of the reality of international relations:

Raw military and economic power still matter more than anything else—so long as those who hold them are prepared to use them.

A term has been coined to describe this notion:

Ryan Evans of War on the Rocks calls them “Trumportunities.”

What I’d like to see is Central-South America Fair Trade Zone. It might help create jobs for the people who are trying to find jobs. I’d love to see us give them a hand to remake their economy. I was in Walmart today and I saw an usual truck it had an Argentine flag and an American flag. The family was driving from Argentina to Alaska. They said it was difficult to drive in Central America. If we could help them with roads and railroads, maybe job opportunities will increase for them...

If welfare benefits were cut in half, The US would be a whole lot less attractive place to illegally enter.
