Five tourists arrested for damaging Peru's iconic Machu Picchu site will be deported to Bolivia later on Wednesday, police said.
A sixth was released from custody and ordered to remain in Machu Picchu pending trial after paying bail of $910.
The six tourists -- four men and two women -- were arrested for damaging Peru's "cultural heritage" after being found in a restricted area of the Temple of the Sun on Sunday.
They were also suspected of defecating inside the 600-year-old temple, an important edifice in the Inca sanctuary.

Didn’t a Peruvian beer company break an ancient clock whilst shooting a tv commercial on location there about a decade and a half ago?
Aztec certainly. Many tens of thousands of living sacrifices.
Inca? I thought “only” warfare as they fought other tribes.
“Aztec certainly.”
LOL...yeah, I know I was pulling from another culture, but seemed appropriate. Diversity or something.
Side story... Years ago, we visited Florence, Italy. Climbed the several hundred steps to the inner top of the Dome of Florence’s cathedral. Along the way up, some idiot had scrolled a website address on the wall in Magic Marker. I hope the Carabinieri tracked down the culprit, banned them from ever entering Italy again...AND ripped their heart out!
Wow! I am impressed... a true moment in history {for us history nuts.} I look at those pics of the first discovery and it is just stunning at how well the restoration has gone. No disrespect to Howard Carter but I think Bingham made the great discovery... you just can't ship Machu Picchu to museums around the world.
About 1999 I was scheduling a tour trip to Cuzco and Machu Picchu. That terror group - Shining Path? - seized an embassy and the tour was canceled. A life's dream squashed! [:^( Now I understand that the govt limits the time a tourist can spend on the site, so many coming to see the wonders. Is one going to travel all the way to Peru to spend an hour or so on the site?
I have also been fascinated by the search for Paititi.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paititi
The most prolific practitioners of human sacrifice were the Aztecs (I can't help but think that Mexican gangs' penchants for mutilating the bodies of their victims - including cutting out hearts - is a carry-over of that tradition). The Mayans also performed sacrifices, but not on the scale that popular culture (movies like Mel Gibson's Apocalypto) would suggest.
The Inca also performed human sacrifices, usually of a specially selected child for one of their fertility rites. Brutal and repulsive to be sure, but their archeological ruins are still interesting and magnificent, in much the same way that you need not be a fan of Islam's presence in Europe to admire Alhambra in Granada. And all of the above are more admirable than people who get their kicks out of defecating in public and desecrating archeological or historical sites.
They definitely deserved jail time.
You might enjoy this review of the movie Apocalypto. Spoiler hes not a fan.
I love this guys (Nick Hodges) reviews of movies based on history.
Honestly, a good caning sounds like appropriate punishment for a stunt like this.
How else to you get it through to numbskulls like this?
Who needs to tell anyone this isn’t acceptable?
I’ll bet these folks are convinced they are the best humans on the planet. Probably all concerned over global warming, farting cows, vegan to the max...
I don’t know. We could ask Joran van der Sloot...................
