The Tesla chief executive, Elon Musk, has said Brexit uncertainty played a role in the firm’s decision to build its first European factory in Germany rather than the UK.

The billionaire entrepreneur revealed that the firm’s European battery plant would be built on the outskirts of Berlin.

Speaking to Auto Express after making the announcement, Musk said: “Brexit [uncertainty] made it too risky to put a Gigafactory in the UK.”

The US electric carmaker also plans to locate a research and development base in the German capital.

I’m sure Tesla will enjoy all the German labor laws.

Shrewd move by Elon. EVs are dependent on gov’t mandates, regulations and price distortions. Elon wants to make sure that he is inside the EU (at the heart of the beast in Germany) so he can maximize regulatory capture.

On global warming BS there certainly is “political uncertainty” in the UK. If the people of Britain will defy the globalists and vote for Brexit, they might defy the globalist on the carbon panic as well.

Thanks for the mention. To be honest, I’ve grown tired of trying to keep tabs on it, at this point.

When Brexit goes through... and the US and UK have a trade deal... and Trump tariffs EU autos... will Musk be happy then?

Tesla doesn't stand a chance in Europe.Every European car maker is building EVs...including VW and Audi.

It'll be David vs Goliath vs Goliath vs Goliath...with David armed only with spitballs.

The EU is insisting on the UK retaining EU “worker rights” directives.

German unions tend to be sensible. UK unions tend not to be sensible.

My view is that all trade agreements should be financially balanced nationally with respect to the motor vehicle business following the decades old US/Canadian model of my youth.

I think VW is looking to build cars in Turkey.

The EU wanted them made in Bulgaria.
